It was somewhere around 1981 or 82, I was an Ardent Fan of the Oilers We called them the Earlers) and the Astros... One day, I sat in a cubicle in Down town Houston, smoking a cigarettes (Yes back then we could smoke anywhere, just about...There were no whiners...) Anyway, I had a little radio, and the news came on... announcing a major league baseball player (and I don t remember who) was stepping off a contract to become his own free-agent. After they explained what that meant, I knew there and then that U.S. sports was doomed to become a dog and pony show. Around the same time, Oilers Coach Bum Phillips Took on New Orleans team... It was all over for me... I never looked back and to this day I don't care for sports and all its nonsense.
