I had a concert where I was asked if i knew the bass line to pretty woman. Needless to say I didn't. I felt ashamed and a little embarrassed to not know such a well-known, easy, and solid bass line. I learned the song that night. I wanted to hear some ideas of songs you guys think every bass player should know.

Joe Walsh - All Night Long (one of the best walkin' bass lines ever)

The Who

Will impress even the youngsters in the crowd! And use a distortion pedal on the lead! 8)

"For Whom the Bell Tolls" Cliff Burton of early Metallica. Remember to oil your pedals!

There is always "Badge" as well - very memorable fun to play. (Jack Bruce)

Under the Sea from the Disney classic, The Little Mermaid. Not the most well known bass line, but a lot of fun o play.

You totally suck if you don't know Mustang Sally. When I was in my 20s, someone asked me to sing along with them and I was like: "What's Mustang Sally?" Pretty much like when these kids today go: "Who's Mick Jagger?"

Nice, ya feel free to post any funny stage incidents as well. like trying to do a 360 spin with a Warwick 5 string and landing into my guitarist. He didn't smile after that, but we were playing metal, so I think on the inside he was laughing...maybe...

This question gives me license to put this in your ear---- Lovin' Every Minute Of It. Now it can be in your head for two days!

Mustang Sally, kinda like Folsom Prison,
Taking Care of Business, Gimme Three Steps,
songs that we try not to cover, but when playing
out, money talks and bullsh#t walks.
