#1: Recording...just love it, especially setting up sounds by myself so there's no peanut gallery chirping in their opinions.
#2: Casual Jamming...depending on the other players, almost as much of a blast to me as recording.
#3: Playing Live...getting out of my comfort zone here. Never in my life have I felt at ease, or had much fun doing this.
#4: Band Rehearsals...I hate this process with a passion!

#1 Recording- generally loath this. Too tedious, too many choices, never satisfied... arrrgh!
#2 Casual jamming with friends- generally enjoy this. Blowing off some steam, exploring new ideas and stretching a bit, unexpected surprises.
#3 Playing live- Love it! Playing live music is life. Everything else is just waiting.
#4 Band rehearsal- anywhere from fun to excruciating. I do enjoy taking a song that starts out pretty rough and honing and polishing it until we get it tight and make it our own.

1) Recording, I absolutely love everything about the process. It is a real outlet for personal expression. I just get pissed because I don't get to do it as much as I would like.
2)Casual Jamming, I never do this at my friends rehearsal. I show up at their gigs to support them and they always get me up on stage. Again this is euphoric to me! I like this the most because. I have this theory that if you are in your comfort zone you don't progress as much. So I try to stay away from being in a comfort zone.
3) Ah! Playing live THIS IS MY COMFORT ZONE! All Warm and snuggly! Seriously though this is why we play music isn't it! God gave me the desire to play music. I new that at 3 years old watching my pops play the piano! I started performing at a very young age!
4) Band rehearsals, I usually try to hook up with musicians that have the same goals and musical taste as myself! Rehearsal to me is the time to learn new songs that ALL members have done their homework and after a couple of run thru's they are gig ready. I guess I just LOVE the music biz. STILL AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!

Painters have a canvas, Musicians got the Cds... Creative musicians ...its your
duty to record it

1) Recording is great IF everyone knows their parts COLD ahead of time, including the studio tech.
2) Jams SUCK. S O S over and over and over. Disonance, cacaphony, amateur hour. Yuck...
3) Gigs great if (see no.1 above)
4) Rehearsals. AWESOME IF there's no dictators. True collaboration is a joyous thing.
5) Doing covers note for note SUCKS. I'm not a damn mynah bird.
6) Doing covers any way I want, priceless. I now grant each one of you the license to play any song you like any way you want to play it, don't you feel better?
7) Originals,priceless.

#4: Recording... OH so tedious a task. Necessary evil.
Let me go rock n roll.
#3: Casual Jamming... is OK as long as it is a creative process. Otherwise screw it. I don't have time to waste musically.
#1: Playing Live...getting out of my comfort zone here.
That's what I love about it.
Being real, being alive, being in the moment, it's a big psyche.
Almost like a good fight YEAH BABY YEAH !!!
#2: Band Rehearsals...I love the stress relief and camaraderie.
This process is my passion!

Anytime I have an instrument in my hand I'm happy. I love it all ! Getting together with some friends and playing a few tunes is what I live for. Some days might be a little better than others , but they all have kept me sane and alive !!!

As a singer my take is a little different.
I hate singing anything I haven't practiced first. I like
to know what I'm gonna do before I do it. I'm all about
being prepared.
I Love singing songs I Love, not songs I don't really like
or others love. I know that sounds typical of singers but
we want to sing songs that we sing well not 85% well.
Nothing turns me on musicly more than being with a group
of talented musicians that enjoy the same music I do.
Sound is VERY important to me. The monitoring of the vocals
can be a sink or swim issue. The same detailed attention
that players give to their instrument sound is what singers
should give to their vocals.

Well of course there are jams, and then there are JAMS. I prefer covers that are close to the original, but I can take ones with a different groove, or instrumentation, but what drives me insane are changes in the chord structure! If you're gonna do that, just write new lyrics and call it your own!

1. Playing Live! A blast when it's actually packed!
2. Rehearsals...hate 'em but gotta do them. Especially now I gotta travel about 30 miles to get there... what a waste but if we all do our homework, we'll only need rehearsals once in a blue moon for only the new tune as we're gonna be stacked with gigs!

Only thing I can think of not being fun is moving gear.
Too many nights of packing up at 4 and having to be at work by 7.
Second thought, musicians with a HUGE ego and nothing to back it up.
So thats 2 things. Other than that If you just want to have some fun sharing some music,,,, That's fun.
Jammed with my garage band friends last night. Almost got them up to playing 4 chord songs

They still are fun. (forget my previous bitch), besides I don't have to pay for the electric. Shoot I may even take them out to do a small 1/2 hour show on a stage(not a bar) 2 weeks from now. Maybe....

I hate recording. It's tedious and time consuming yet it is vital to performance.
I hate to practice. It is hard work making the fingers, lungs, tongue and brain to cooperate with the task at hand. CLassical, jazz, rock are artuclated diferently and requires different personalities to showcase each ability successfully. But it is how I develop a camraderie with my axe.
Jamming is a great way to practice. It is a different concept when you are working with other humans. It's how I develop a camraderie with people. People I may need or vice versa in the future.
Rehearsals must be done, sometimes they'r great sometimes they simply suck. They make or break a performance.
Classical, rock, jazz ? Although I'd druther be doing jazz, all three give me the same rush.
Performing on stage for an audience of family, friends and strangers is priceless.

I play bass and will jam on bass sometimes but tend to view bass as my band instrument.
I love to jam with blues guys or metal types on six string but only if it is NOT about rehashing someobdy else's tune.
Playing covers is ok under the conditions Bob noted and i like to get paid for doing it. A good jam is where some disperate players get together and click - everybody wails, has a good time and it comes together. Doesn't happen every time but makes checking out jams worth while.
Playing live? Hell yes. Makes it all worth while. For some odd reason i always thought when looking at an audiance that everthing hung on me pushing that band with my bass. (I suspect the guys on other axes feel the same way)

1. Recording is a blast when it's with great musicians. Without a product to sell, #2 makes no cents. My favorite thing in music is taking an idea from scratch to finished master.
2. Live performance is where you find out what you should have sang on the recording.
3. Songwriting is where it all starts. It's the best way to make sure a song "fits" you.
4. Rehearsal is over-rated. I prefer teaching people songs as we're setting up to record them. Rarely is it played with more passion than the first takes. After the song has been recorded, the musicians can listen to it until they know what their parts were.
5. I love a good live jam session if the players are good.
