Light snoring, no. Heavy snoring, maybe. My dad is a heavy snorer and will stop breathing for seconds at a time because of it while he is sleeping. Heavy snoring is also very loud and if you are married or have a significant other, it can put a strain in the relationship because cuddling would be less possible. I know my dad's girlfriend goes and sleeps on the couch with earplugs because his snoring is so loud.

Have the soft palate shaving..

If you aren't a vocalist, it won't matter.

Oh and have medical insurance..

April

You Dad probably has Sleep Apnea. It's non trivial and can take years off your life. Several solutions: drugs, C-PAP mask or surgery.

It's worth checking out since it can cause high blood pressure and all sorts of other nastiness.

That was nice of you Mike.

Sleep apnea and snoring are not related, though snoring can be a sign of apnic episodes.

Apnea is the absence of respiration. Snoring is just noisy respiration.
The frequency, duration, and resultant blood oxygen saturation depletion levels must be determined in order to diagnose and treat.

My old man and his father both snored like hell.
I learned early on that when camping / hunting with them you'd best be the first asleep or you wouldn't.

Neither had apnea.

Apnea, like ADD and ADHD are misdiagnosed often intentionally as a sales pitch.

A reputable sleep study center ... or just buy yourself a pulse oximeter and a stop watch.

Thanks for the info guys :)

Another question...guys are usually the ones who are assumed to be the one doing all the snoring. What if your girl was the one who snored loud? Would this be a turn off and/or a deal breaker for a relationship?

I'm told I'm a light/occasional snorer, but for some reason find it embarrassing. I'm worried it will only get louder with age.

It would NOT be a deal breaker for me unless she started growing a moustache...

BTW I was a smoker which lead to apnea, which kicked my ass a few years ago...I quit smoking cold turkey...I breathe better now, sleep better now, apnea seems to be gone..but I aint gonna lie...I still dream of wallowing in beds of tobacco... And I have been known to snore to the point that it rattled the windows.

I have had the surgery and I am a vocalist. It is not a pleasent
thing to have part of your throat cut out. It has affected my
singing greatly but I have generally overcome it. I had severe
apnea and it was ruining my life. No sleep makes you a Zombie.
I had a choice of the surgery and possibly ruining my voice and
dieing in a car crash or in my sleep. The C-pap machine blew out
the balancing crystals in my ears so that wasn't an option.
Apnea is a serious condition and can KILL YOU.[/b]

If it's a " deal breaker " the guy
#1 did not love you.
&
#2 Probably has no idea how to love anyone but himself.

Who the hell needs that kind of relationship?

Obesity is a major contributing co morbidity for most all health conditions.
Yes, you will probably snore more as you age, but if you keep yourself active and in a good state of fitness it should not be an issue.

Klug is right. Sleep apnea can be a serious condition based on the parameters I delineated in my previous post.
As an RN I see thousands of people in a years time, hundreds with CPAP & BIPAP machines.
Many don't even bring them into the hospital with them.
And a lot of them have been duck diagnosed by a clever salesman in a lab jacket and MD behind his name.
( meaning they do not have apnea episodes )

The best solution, when possible, is for each to have their own bedroom and bed. You shouldn't have to lose sleep because your partner snores.

What Mike said. If other people are sleeping in other rooms because of you, then perhaps you need to visit the sleep clinic and have yourself tested. A friend just found out he has sleep apnea, and another friend of mine's boyfriend died in his sleep from it. It's no joke, so please check it out if it's you or you know someone.

A really inexpensive solution for snoring (not apnea which IS serious) is taking the supplement NAC with a few saltine crackers at bedtime. NAC is readily available at health food stores and is also a good supplement for general good health (check with your qualified naturopath or holistic practicioner).
