Amy Winehouse.
What a waste of talent.

Dance with the devil, pay the band.
If the music / entertainment industry did not propagate her ( and others ) irresponsible behaviors, would she still be alive and entertaining ?
( no I'm not suggesting anyone other than herself is responsible )
While working my second job today I listened for a short time to FM radio " rock " station. Judging from the same old sh*t for lyrical content, it a wonder any of these fools live past 30.
Glad I lived long enough to figure out I needed A NEW WAY TO LIVE
( note shameless song plug )

Sad. 27 does seem to be a major hurdle.

I don't know man.
I don't want to come off sounding judgmental or cold as that is not my intent.
But we continue to talk of tragedy and loss and of how " great " any said artist is, do we not encourage another generation to kill themselves with stupidity ?
Being an addict is not special, it's just stupid. Talent irrelevant.
And I feel somewhat qualified to make that statement as I've done my term as a stupid addict.
Poor girl, if she's had any real friends in her life they would have kicked her ass ... not played yes man to her burn out.
Lets remember that it was her own people whom potentate and provided for her ultimate destruction.
As did the associates of every name on your list.

I'm not condoning the behavior, but there have been many great artists with similar problems. Mind altering through drugs and or alcohol is nothing new to music or art. Many great artists have had mental problems or have had problems dealing with this reality. It will probably always be. And there will always be some new addition to the 27 club.

Yes.
And I'm aware your not condoning behavior.
But ? Are we not doing exactly that ?
I mean sure man, I grew up thinking life was all about sex drugs and rock n roll.
Yeah ... in my youth sex drugs & RR was cool.
Turns out after losing so many friends.
Nothing cool about STD's and early death.

Livin on the edge seems to come with greatness. Keith R wrote his best stuff long ago if you ask me. I would rather see him alive than dead but under the influence he was pretty amazing. Same for James Taylor imo. Just a couple of survivors who came out alive but weren't the same.

Its really sad. She was treated like a freak show by the press, and she definitely had problems with drugs & Alchohol... Hopefully , others will learn from this. Another one bites the dust...

As usual I agre with Sans. Doing drugs and/or drinking to excess is plain STUPID. I don't fel sorry for anybody like Winehouse. Do you know why we have a drug problem in this country? Do you know why there's a drug cartel making umpteen billions? Because IDIOTS do drugs in the first place. BOO HOO. The simple answer is DON'T. Whatever method one uses to stay away from drugs; Jesus, meditation, or a strict parent who whipped your ass when you were a kid, is the RIGHT method.

Just by coincidence I just saw a TV show that featured clips from Winehouse's last concert where she was booed of the stage. Imagine coming right out of rehab to a tour show with little or no rehearsal. Whoever was responsible for scheduling a big show so soon after rehab was an IDIOT.

She was just an object for sale Bob.
The producers / promoters and her " entourage " obviously care nothing about her humanity.
Quite possibly because they have none of their own.
Consumed by greed you become greed.
Then greed is all you are.

I guess it was on her schedule. June-Rehab. July-Tour. Not like that's going to put any pressure on her...

I agree Bob and Sans, that’s just craziness. If they owned a race horse, it would have more consideration. Given those string of events, in my opinion it sounds more like a suicide. When performance is your only measure of worth, both personally and publicly, what happens when it becomes obvious you can no longer perform?
Even though most of us will never reach that level of success, I don’t know about you folks, but music for me has no problems swallowing up as much life, cash and soul that you can throw at it. Some just aren’t capable of reaching a wise choice when it becomes too much. Look at the recent decision Crip made for instance? In the same situation I would find it hard to believe someone in their twenties, would posses that wisdom.
We all had our wild times in our youth and perhaps it’s of great mercy that none of us achieved huge musical notoriety, while too reckless and young to have any perspective? At 18 years old, if someone could guarantee fame and fortune, the only catch is you die at the ripe old age of 27, how many would have given the offer a lot of thought? It reminds me of the movie “Logan’s Run”. In my youth I never expected to reach 30, never mind 47, but here I am. Remember who you were back then? In most cases, it isn’t the same person who is reading this now. What was I thinking literally 20 years ago? I haven’t a clue. If I did, perhaps I would have had a plan “B”.
Man this forum has gotten real slow for me, takes forever to post anything.

Well Said. In My day job, there was one year, where I was constantly in the air, city after city, location after location , meeting after meeting... and the one really big thing I noticed...
which all by itself can take a toll was the lack of sleep... I could not catch up or get enough of it. When we're young, we can handle it, but I was already late 40's ... Man, I could not imagine pushing through a schedule like that and doing sh*t loads of drugs too... Would have killed me for sure...
