Hey drummers, You guys ROCK!

I recently put a small kit in my studio. Thanks to RG suggesting some links, I have learned much. Thanks RG!
Now I'm a very good rhythm guitar player, with very good timing. But it's all in the hands.
I just picked up a 50 dollar double beater. Holy Dongle, I never realized how hard it is to just play steady 8th notes, and then when you start to add accents in the combos are unlimited. That's just the kick.

Any way, the funny thing about drums, sorta like patting you head and rubbing your belly at the same time. As tough as singing and playing a lead part at the same time. You have to think in 2 different directions.

Any way this was just a little musical post. If you have a good drummer go give him/her a big hug. VERY, VERY tough musical instrument to master.

(Oh I'm getting better, give me a few years)

I don't know what we'd do without Steve.
Big fella really plays and is constantly upping the anti.

Damn right, drummers rock!

A good drummer is indeed the driving force in a band. I tell parents who dread listening to little Johnny practice, if he is any good he will be the most sought out musician in the business. So, encourage him to practice his butt off. Silent warriors they be.

Drummers suck! They are the reason most bands break up IMHO. They are neurotic, prone to alcoholism, drug abuse, law trouble and bad girlfriends. But without them it wouldn't be rock.

Sounds like your talking about lead guitar players to me Jimmy.

You just have to be in bands another 25 years before you agree :)

The drummers are worse. IMO

They think it takes as much skill to do what they do as opposed to the rest of the band.

I know a guy who has a great band, but he got pissed with the drummer. The guy was always playing too much at the last minute. (beat squeezer)

So he decided to remove all of the drums except for 1 snare looking thing.

Now the guy keeps time, plays the part he's supposed to and is basically better.

(Seems harsh, but if it worked>?!?!?>!?!?)

Again it would seem our band fits the small print disclaimer...

RESULTS NOT TYPICAL

I can live with that.

 Now thats funny, not so much the statement that drummers suck, but the fact that again, punk band horror stories.

It would be funny if it weren't somewhat true. The Farleys have been a band for 12 years, and are now on our fourth drummer. And it's not just punk bands that have horror stories; I've been in Top-40 bands, classic rock bands, oldies bands and original bands and the drummer has always been the unknown quantity. That's probably why they like to beat on things.

Its all fun and games until your drummer spontaneously explodes on stage.

Most of the drummers I've worked with have been pretty darn eccentric - some to the point of insanity. Had one surfer boy we just paid by the jpn because he was so annoying - great player though.

But there is a fellow named Chris Sherlock...He and I could look at each other and start playing as if we'd rehearsed it.

Time and circumstances have kept us apart but after all these years he is my standard of what I think drummers should be.

I played about a month ago with a drummer who was way out of practice but still pretty good - having a drummer makes it real in the end - at least with metal/rock/punk etc.

Sucky drummers suck. A drummer who is neurotic, prone to alcoholism, drug abuse, law trouble and bad girlfriends should not be hired. One thing a good drummer has to do is make the band sound good. They can't do that if they have these problems. Good drummers must be unsung heroes, it's their job. If they can't do that then they'll never be great drummers.

Oh Mary

I'm all of the things that apparently American bands just don't like?
I'm neurotic, I've had some really GOOD girlfriends however.
Yep I like a drink here and there.
No one hires me, I'm glad about that really. Because I only play with people I get on with and those who are committed and have knowledge of at least some vibe. (Did I destroy my musical future here?)

Frankly even thread post is spawned of bad knowledge and history. People are what they are. Except them and allow them to flourish!
