It's dumbasses like this that give shooters a bad rap.

And he deserves every bit of it.

I'm not laughing (too hard) I did laugh at the DEA puke who shot himself while demonstrating his gun to an elementary school group.

Poor fellow looked like an experienced shooter who slipped up...

Man I was grilled hard for years by my dad about being ever mindful of what the barrel covers at all times.

And he'd slap the piss out of ya if you ventured a finger into the guard before you were on target.

Also a good friend and mentor, whom was an entry expert from the era of the USSR in Afghanistan
( yes there were Americans there aiding the rebels )
He trained me in the difference in sport / hunting and the handling of weapons in offensive / defensive scenarios.

This guy ( in the video ) made all the wrong moves and got exactly what anyone can get if they don't treat their weapons with respect at all times.

It looks like he just grazed himself. You can see where the bullet shot into the ground. So, I'm guessing it gouged through, out the side of his knee. He's actually very lucky he didn't hit an artery (femur) or shatter the joint.

Also, if he is gonna draw like a trick shot...you'd think he'd spend the first 3 months learning how to un-holster his weapon...before he even touches a trigger... Just my guess.

A pal of mine learned just how fanatic I am about safety a couple weeks ago. He told me he wanted to buy a pistol and what did I recommend? He was thinking Glock.

I told him "Bad idea." To handle autos and particularly Glocks you have to be a gunman. Can't put it in the drawer and hope you remember how to load a magazine ten years later under stress.

Most gun accidents are either handgun related or trigger happy hunters shooting each other. (in GA some farmers paint "COW" on the side of their animals in hunting season)

He was surprised and said "I thought you had guns?"
"I do"
"What Kind do you have?"
"Glock."

I ended up suggesting he grab a Mossberg or Remington 870 shot gun for home defense.

(note - I'm not discouraging anyone from learning handguns, just noting that there is a certain committment to safety required that most folks don't usually take the time to practice unless they grew up with it)

My best friend's brother was a hunter from early on but killed himself sticking a pistol in his belt and then tripping over a log...

You assertion that handguns require more training is absolutely correct.
And the best " home defense " weapon is a shotgun hands down IMO.
My friends and I whom carry train often and expend thousands of rounds in the process.
If you don't train, and if you don't have "failure drills" in your training.
You'd be better off with a golf club.
