uploaded a tune

I wrote this and played bass on it. I did a crappy job transferring this to MP3. There is a weird gap of a few seconds before it starts and I accidently clipped about 5 bars at the end <sigh>.

I'm borrowing some gear this weekend and will take a shot at doing it better. Have another as well from this sesson - which I'll push up soon.

Also working on new stuff with me on guitar and (gasp) vocals- close to ready.

I appologize for the quality but figured it was time to put something up here.

Sounds great Mike! Even though the recording quality was sketchy, your baseline skills came across as solid. Cant wait to hear a better recorded version.

OH yeah ... too bad man the recording is pretty much unlistenable on my system.

Sad too sounds like a good un.

Let me know for sure when you have it cleaned up.

Besides the recording, it sounds like something from UNLEASHED IN THE EAST/SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE.

Dude cool tune. A little Brian May harmonies meets Bowie meets Sid V. Loved it. Especially the guitar harmonies.
Get a better recording going.... you're onto something.

Thanks Gentlemen for all the feedback. I tried this by pushing a cassette recording via cable straight into laptop using Audacity as the software. Didn't work too well. I'll try it with speakers next.

I want this song and another in particular since they were recorded well (not that you could tell from this) and I have them ready to go.

There are 4 new ones I've selected and its just a question of rehearsing them to death so I don't have to worry about silly mistakes. For those I'll have to figure out if it's best to use my Tascam pocket studio or go straight into Audacity. My problem with the Tascam is it's unfriendly interface - I plugged the two cassette tunes in there without difficulty but can't convert them to a format I can transfer to computer.

I'm not too impressed with Audacity but it's simple. I also have Ableton Live which is supposed to leap tall buildings but it is pretty darn complex!

I'll keep plugging away at this - and thanks again, I apreciate it.

Paperdog

I downloaded the software but not clear how to use it in this instance. Audacity has an add on converter to mp3 - will the Fox software fix up that lousy sound?

thanks

Mike, In Hind site I now realize that you were trying to get a tape over to digital... Yikes! I think the trick might be to take your studio tape; line out into the PC... From there you should be able to publish the raw digital file into a 'consumable format, such as MP3, etc. (I recommend looking into Acid Studio for you PC...Unlimited tracks and stuff, and you can publish the files very easily that way))

About the only thing you can do with the sound in the FoxTab tool that I recommended is that you can change frequency resolution of the audio. (I.e to discern what production quality the file will be used for) Beyond that, its really more of a bare-bones converter. I like it because most of my crap is CD audio and I can convert to WMA or MP3, MP4, etc if I need to.

I like your tune... (i understand the frustration you are going through).

A while back, I used to have a 4-track Fostex... Which I spent copious hours investing in laying down the tracks, mixing (Spent money on equip I didn't even understand; just to get a half way decent mix.) It occurred to me that I was spending more time farting around with sound levels, effects , syncs, etc and I totally lost site of my 'music' .

So, I promised my self...never again... Vowed to pay a real studio, real money for a real engineer who can produce a real package. To that end, I have been 'saving up my allowance' ;)
