Many years ago the Great lakes became seriously full of lampreys which are like giant leeches that attach to bigger fish (salmon) and suck their blood. So the biologists introduced smelt which eat lamprey eggs. Then the smelt became so overpopulated they were washing up on Great Lakes beaches, ruining them. The Chinook Salmon were introduced and they started eating the smelt. A balanced fishery was achieved. I'm not sure if plans are underway to do something similar with the exploding Asian Carp populations. Therefore my fertilizer idea...
