Ever use Discmakers?

We're probably going to go with Discmakers for the new CD but reading their requirements, they do not advise using jpegs. I don't have Quark or any other desktop publishing software; any advice?

Discmakers did my first CD. This was back in 2002, so I wasn't really happy with them because they told my CD sounded great, but it really needed to be further mastered. We didn't know what we were doing, so we thought they would've noticed the music was overmaximized. And they offered mastering which was strange they didn't see an opportunity to make a few extra bucks.

Anyway, they still did a decent job on the graphics which my friend did and the printing of the CD. 1000 Digipaks costed me around $2300.

You don't want to use .jpgs for any sort of printing because it comes out pixelated or fuzzy looking. .jpegs should be used for web only. What you can do is go to the Paint Shop Pro website: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... bview=tab0

Download their program for free, you can use it for 30 days. It's a cheap version of Photoshop, but works just as well to me, and it's only $79. But you can open up your .jpeg and save it as a .tif or bitmap. I always use .tif for printing. I use this program for all of my print work, and I've never had a problem. I used a .tif file for Discmakers.

Good luck.

Geeze Chaeya, you're a wealth of information. School of test now teach later has taught you much. I wouldn't know any of that. 8)

Definitely the School of f**k ups and Fall on Your Ass. At least I'd like to save someone some trouble and a lot of money.

Honestly, this is the route I want to go. Cisco and I checked this baby out at NAMM. You can print your own CDs. I'd get it mastered elsewhere.

It's like $3,000 and it prints directly on the disk, the quality is prima, I was smuding my finger all over the disk. We even listened to it in a CD player, sounds great. You can manufacture your own CD covers for less than $200 and I think the ink will print up to 300 CDs at a time before changing. If you make your own music, you'll wind up saving a lot of money in the interim. As much as people download, it's still impressive to have your own physical CD.

You can buy a barcode here:

They don't cost that much.

If you go to the Adobe website you can also get a free 30 trial version of Photoshop (Elements).
