The Big Question

If you were going to start a new Cover Bar Band that played Rock and Roll/Dance music and you could only use songs that were written between 2008 through 2011, what songs you use?

The band is;

One Rythem Guitar Player/vocal
One Lead Guitar Player/vocal
One Base Player/vocal
One Keyboard Player/vocal
One Percussionist Player/vocal
One Drummer
One Male Lead Singer
One Female Lead Singer

You don't have to list all 40 songs, just the ones you think people would get into/dance too.

Rock-n-Roll?
Didn't even know people still played it.
My sons band does a cover of Poker Face (GaGa) they use the guitars to cover all the keyboard sounds it gets people up off their butts real quick. It comes off pretty cool and dark.

2008 - 2011 What a blur. Where was the rock? Or did you mean Pop . Good question I hope to pick up a few from this post myself.

Got me too.

Only dance I know is that spastic white boy guitar dance.

And I do it to my own music. 8)

I would do a Lady Gaga Medly:

Poker Face
Born This Way
Just Dance
Paparazzi

Rihanna:

Only Girl in the World
S&M

The Gorillaz: Feel Good (It's older but they still play it a lot)

Cee Lo Green: f**k You

That's what I can think of at the moment, I'll have to get home to where I can hear stuff.

example: For us a great Rock and Roll dance song would be Back in Black by AC/DC

And I really fear the only way, is to do what your son does.

Human by the Killers.. Slow down the tempo and rock it out.

The last four years in Rock and Roll music really really sucks...IMO

The only R&R dance song I could find from the last four years was All Summer Long by Kid Rock.......and crap....that was a rip off.

Ok, try these on for size... (Some are arguably not Rock tho)

Kid Rock - All Summer Long
Kid Rock - So Hott
Alice In Chains - Check My Brain
Kings of Leon - Love Somebody
Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire
Seether - Careless Wisper (a Wham cover-- Wait! What?)
Linkin Park - New Divide
AC/DC - Rock n Roll Train
Coldplay - Viva La Vida (sorry for adding this one)
the Heavy - How do you like me now
Five Finger Death Punch - Bad Company (Bad company cover- a cheat)

Had I searched a big more I probably could have come up with more/better list.

Since you mentioned Rock and Dance in the same request I tried to pick things that were Listenable + danceable.

As always-- Google is your friend. ;-)

Maybe some White Stripes or Racontours, Black Keyes (Chop and Change)... Arctic Monkeys maybe Panic at the Disco, Cake has a new album. They all rock but have some groove to them.

You could probably get a few worthwhile tunes from Muse as well.

I guess my question is why would you limit yourself to rock over the past few years? Sure include some, but not exclusively in that time frame.

Just an impression, but seems Rock over the past few years has fallen mostly around heavier stuff (e.g. Metal) or pop-rock sort of things. There are probably a few (like Foo Fighters) that aren't exactly like that tho.

Starting up another band.....new blood and thinking for the future 10 years from now. Don't know if I should ween them on old R&R or start fresh like most bands did 30 years ago breaking away from Bobby Vinton and the Beach Boys. In this case, breaking away from RAP, Linkin Park and Lady GAGE ME. The future starts soon for this band.
