Okay folks this can be a confusing topic? My point is I played in a band back in 1996 called Rare Seed? The gear I played on the recording cost me $500.00! From song 1 thru 9 on my site. The guitar I am playing I bought In a local Pawn shop for $129.00 and the amplifier is a Crate (no tube) G120! Ha! Ha! :P :P

I've spent a little coin. lol. My main Schecter 7 was $600. My 8 string was $900. PRS classic Standard 24 was $1200 used. $200 Ibanez 5 string. lol. iMac $2200. Onyx firewire interface $550. PodX3L $400. Tons of other stuff. AudioTechnica ATH-M50s, ATH-M40fs, Marshall 8100, Orange 412, a couple MIDI controllers, a Presonus Faderport...

Maybe I got a little carried away. haha. But my living-room is my favorite place to hang out at. haha.

I also don't like cheap equipment, you tend to have to replace it more often. I'd rather spend a little more on something well-made that I'll have for a while.

Ummm,
I have way too much gear. 7 guitars (four get used regularly) 4 amps, 1 Vox Tonelab DSP, 12 floor pedals, a handful of rack effects, 1 very portable Mackie/JBL PA sys, two vintage Altec cabs that sound excellent and weigh too much, 1 Roland VS multi track workstation, 1 ProTools rig, 12 recording/live mics, I bought most of it cheap and used but still... The most expensive guitar I ever bought is my Les Paul Studio Sunburst ($800 used, was $1300 new) and I don't use it much. Time to sell some of this stuff that is not getting used. Does it help that all of it was paid for with gig money??

Tens of thousands. I always go first class because it's all about the enjoyment I get playing. I don't regret a penny spent. I bought some dumb stuff, being OCD, but the lessons learned were worth paying for, so no problems with that either.

Ya'll know that when you purchase a piece of gear, you have to kiss a few toads along the way to find that princess. :)

Just enough to home-record with! when all is said and done, probably 2K over the course of 2 years.

My biggest 1-time $ investment was my combo amp cause up til earlier this year I didn't have any stage gear :o

Lets see the two Les Paul Classics I use were $1000 each.

Mesa Triple Rec w 4x12 cab, $1600

My pedal board Im guessing all told around $1200

So I basically carry about $5000 worth of guitar stuff around for an Aint Yo Mama gig.

PA System I would guess around $22,000

It is what it is!

This is the reason I put up with peoples sh*t day in and day out . I work hard and I play harder. If I want to blow 20 grand on music equipment then I will. Its the only thing keeping me sane these days and I don't think I can put a price on that. Its taken me a lot of years, but I have a nice collection of equipment to play with. Its the recording stuff I never was interested in. I recently bought a camera that does about all the recording I'm up to at this point , and it does a great job of letting me see what things sound like either when I'm alone or have a full band playing with me. I think its not how much or little you have spent , more than how much love and dedication your willing to give it. I can tell a lot by what I hear you do Jeff and I doubt you could put a price on all the hard work you put into those recordings.

So did I get slammed or what?

LOL, I dont really give a f**k what anyone thinks of the money Ive spent on gear thru the years. Some people collect odds and ends, mine just happens to be gear, that I have accumulated over a 30 yr period.

I feel I have great tone, and my band sounds great live, so to me thats priceless. We haul way more equipment than we have too, but most of my band grew up in the 70s when rock was all about excess. The people that come to our gigs expect bigger, louder, more exciting and thats what they get. So Im tickled when a guitarist friend plays on my rig and says man that is just bone crushing tone, or your band sounds so clean live its amazing. Or the smoke and lights are awesome.

Music is business and a competition against a lot of other entertainment sources, I hear folks on here all the time crying and whining because they cant make any money, sometimes you have to put out a little to make some.

Anyway rant over, LOL

I don't think anyone would slam you for doing what you love John. I've spent a small fortune myself; I would guess 30k on equipment and 20k on recordings. But it's worth every penny. Rock on!
