Congrats. Make a good demo and attract investors/small label. Have fun!

Maybe you can get some local businesses to sponsor the CD. Give you some money and put their names, logos on the completed CD cover. If you know anybody who owns their own business why not ask them. It wouldn't hurt to try...Good luck with the project. I know it will turn out well. Your individual efforts are great, adding some virtuosity will only make them better.

That's awesome, Hayden! It's also inspiring to me. I've given thought to putting down guitar, bass, and vox on my own, and then hitting the studio to do drums...maybe. But the thing IS a money issue.

Fortunately for you, you have a guy that is cool enough to put down drums for you. That's a huge break! I've read a little bit on getting donations. If you don't have a personal website, then getting a blog going is a good idea. To get people interested in donating, some things you can do is offer to put their names in your thanks list. You can also offer them a free song for doing so.

I remember taking notes from this book recently, but the website for it is so much more helpful! There's even people that you can contact for a place to crash at if you're going out on the road. No kidding. Here, check it out:http://www.indieguide.com/

You'll find a lot of advice that you already know, but there's a ton of creative ideas on there for the DIY musician that you may not have thought of. The links on that page are VERY useful!

Hope that link helps you out a bit. 8)

YO! http://www.indieguide.com/search/donations

EDIT: Didn't look at all the pages of the links, but I think doing the Paypal route on a blog and your other pages would be the best way to go. Some of those links want to get you set up only to get a 4% percentage. Any interested fan would be more than happy to offer a few bucks to have their name listed in the liner notes or a free song. Free appreciation is probably the best idea I've heard. The online donations would be a great way to build your mailing list too.

I can't wait till I get my copy.

Sometimes things come easier than you would ever think. Every studio out there wants a hit or two. Collaborating with the owner of a studio is a great start. Good luck.

Stay focused and good,, I want to use the "LUCK" but that really isn't the right word.
How about good vibes to drown out all the negatives as you work on your project.

Good luck Hayden!!!!!!!!!

Right! Be careful with that one. I always say salt it just a little bit, but keep the info a big mystery.

The bad news - my bass guitar isn't as valuable as I thought. We looked it up and there are used ones available for $350 and less. So I'll have to either sell it and the GK amp cheap and lose them, or keep them and find another way to fund the studio time.

The good news - I stopped in and he had been playing my music for his wife and another local songwriter.
He said "I could listen to your music all day long, and I couldn't even listen to my bands music all day" :D
Then he threw me a new set o 5 strings for my bass so it would sound good on the recordings (he also owns the music store) :D

Still homeless but it doesn't even matter if I can get an album recorded

So I'm writing the bass lines to the ones I haven't done that for and practice practice practice... damn my fingers hurt. Yeah I know, that's what I get for not playing enough. But I haven't had a reason until now

Well I got 4 more songs recorded making it 14. Now I have to write/practice/play the unfinished bass lines and begin the harmonies. Man I wish this guy was a nightowl like me; I do my best singing n playing at... 3am
Can't help it. I've been this way all o my life. Hell I don't even wake up well until 11pm.
But I'm still happy to be recording :)

Man it feels good to have someone believe in me and my music!
