Well, I grew up as a guitarist, I only started playing bass cause my band Detox was looking for a bass player, I messed with it a lil bit, so I decided I'd play bass for the band. I've played bass for Detox for roughly 6 months, and I'm an okay bass player. Well, I know a million guitar techniques, but no bass technques, so sure enough I looked some up on YouTube, and found this guy Victor Wooten. WOW is all I can say, I had no idea how complicated bass can be when played by an amazing bass player. The stuff I was seeing this guy do blew my mind, and I'm sure dedicated bass players haev already seens these techniques, the "double thumb" and "double thumb with double pluck" or something like that. Either way, it was amazing, andt he way he uses the muted harmonics...well, basically it's inspired me to try to be a better bass player, hopefully it'll make Detox stronger if we decide to stay together.

Welcome from the dark side! Victa is da bomb. The 1st Vital Tech Tones CD has some of his greatest playing and Scott Henderson is no sluff

if you want to learn the basics of slap pop... check out "Funk Bass" by joe leiberman. little less technique little more feel but a great book once you get past the 30 or so pages of excercises.
