Four consecutive last at bat wins...(Sorry non-musical post)
Posted: Wed Apr 06, 2011 5:00 amI wonder what the major league baseball record is for consecutive games won by a last-at-bat. The Royals just won their fourth game in a row with last-at-bat heroics. It's just an unbelievable start for a team that's been mired near the bottom for fifteen miserable years. I tend to root for an underdog and hope springs eternal for the Royals. The chemistry of this team feels very different. They are 4 and 1 against the Angels and White Sox, two teams that have destroyed the Royals for the better part of fifteen years. Maybe this is the year we have a winning record...finally. It looks like we have a really great bullpen, the weakness of the team forever (except closer Joakim Soria). Two rookies, Aaron Crow and Tim Collins are coming into a game in the middle and late innings throwing blazing strikes. Man, I'm stoked. Alex Gordon is hitting like everybody thought he would when he was drafted second overall a number of years ago. Billy Butler is easily one of the best hitters in baseball. They added punch to their line-up with Melky Cabrerra and Francouer. And the shortstop Escobar they got from the Brewers in the Greinke trade looks like an ALL WORLD fielder. Escobar alone can lower the pitching staff's ERA. And they've got one of the best managers in baseball who's proven he has a talent for bringing out the best in young ball-players. They may end up losing 100 games again but I'm hoping this is the year that they turn this thing around...
