man I got up early this morning, no kids no gf around, fixed some coffee, went in cranked the ole half stack and my old faithful LP, and oh yeah no effects, my board is in the equipment trailer

I cranked out some tunes, Weve got a gig the first of April and another possibly in March. Anyway I wound up playing for two solid hours.

It just felt so good, lately Ive been kinda playing in spurts here and there, but Ive got to get the callous's and chops back up.

I dont know why but I got to playing around with some our originals and then locked into Lights by Journey of all things. Never played it live, but man the solo to that song just sings to me for soem reason. neal Schon is truelly a very underated guitarist.

Just thought I would start a thread about the basic joy of making noise, just a redneck white boy, and LP and Mesa Half Stack, early in the morning!

Probably because it's been the finest guitar on the market since it was first introduced. Man I got to get off here and go take some lessons from my Epiphone Les Paul . When I grow up I'm going to have a real Gibson Standard model.

That sounds like fun John, I love to jam in the morning but usually I'm in front of a computer.

I love my Les Pauls too but my Standard is a heavy mofo. Probably why the Strats get way more action at my house.

I have a soft spot for my strat. I prefer the neck to the Gibbies, & I have a Ricky that is such a soft touch that it's wasted on the likes of me. (I'm no great guitarist, & never tried to be.)

It was just the first time in a while that I just played solid like that, I was home alone last night and tryed to get in the mood and it seemed like I was all thumbs, but this morning it was just so smooth and fluid! Its cool when you get into that zone, and it sure felt good this morning.

I dont know if it would have matter what guitar I strapped on, havent had the Strat out of the case in monthes. This morning I was playing the 1989 Les Paul Classic Reissue, sunburst, I call it me Zep guitar cause it has that look of Jimmys main guitar from the 70s. Its strange cause I have a 2004 model, same model and it has the fatter neck like a 59 model standard, where as the 89 Classic has that small thin neck that just feels like glass to me, and the ole Triple Rec was sounding pretty good too. Great combination for me, just a great tone machine, I guess it was also cause I didnt have my effects board wired up, just straight guitar thru the cord to amp. Almost gives me a woody thinking about it.

I have a feeling you'd LOVE a high end PRS....Just sayin'... All I ever played was Les Pauls but since I've acquire the PRS, I use it for 80% of my shows!

Crip you will shoot me but way back in the 80s or whenever PRS first came out I had one for a bit, It was one of the first run ones at the time. I traded the damn thing for a Strat.

Ive played a few thru the years in a local store that stocks them but for the price i just couldnt in my mind justify em.

All 3 of my pauls I got for a 1000 apiece, all used of course, but thats kinda the high end to pay for an axe to me

But yeah whenever you see me bend me over and just kick my ass for not keeping that PRS, the guy that handled them back then and I bought it used from him, asked me recently if I still had it, he said it might be worth 10-15,000 at this point LOL

I hear ya... I got rid of a '79 kalamazoo Les Paul Custom for pennies many years back.... found out today it's worth about 12 grand! I have played some of the olderPRS's... something wrong with the tone on them... They've obviously fixed that as I'm lovin the way mine sounds!

LOL.. No....Full Throttle (a biker mag) was taking pics of the show and the photographer told me to smile once in a while so I flashed her the biggest smile while doin' a lead!

In the 80s in my old metal band Golden Shadow, we had this big mirror on one side and we would all be making these pouting faces in the mirror whenever we rehearsed, we didnt sound worth a sh*t but we sure looked good!

The singer from that band went on to play in a group called Annihilator for a couple fo albums and did a world tour with Priest, guy named Coburn Pharr, he was a trip man should of hung with him a little longer

We had done this show at a drive in theatre, played second and it started raining when we got done and he and I were sitting in his car watching one of the bands trying to get thier gear up and covered. He said Wild Man, What are we gonna have to do to make it in music? I said being funny maybe we should move to LA so we dont get rained on all the time. I'll be damned if a few weeks later he moved out there and got in that band, even called me cause they needed a bass player. I was too skeered at the time, not really its just like all singers back then he was a lot of talk! LOL He got in touch with me on face book a few monthes ago and said Wild Man if you hadnt said that in my car that day I would probably still be in Memphis with you!

Is the difference between Les Pauls and Strats kind of like Fords and Chevies? Some people like one over the other...

I love my LP Goddess, she fits me like a glove.
A tad neck heavy on the strap but I play death grip a lot so it's not an issue really.
Not been able to play in the morning for some time due to the work schedule.
I try to be on the road by 05:45 - 05:50.
Lucky to be home by 16:30 - 17:00

I have 2 Pauls and 2 SG's and even a big ES355TD "F" hole and an Epiphone Zenith (Rather like the Super 400) I like all of them. I gigged for 12 years with those. If one of my Pauls had P-90's in it I would play it more.
I can hear the notes with more separation on my Fenders. I didn't even pick up and play a Tele or a Strat until my friend sent one to me years after I had quit playing altogether.

I had had this feeling way back in my mind that God would smite me if I picked up a guitar with a bolt on neck.

Slacker, Im not sure how many guitars I own anymore, Ive got a lot of $100 specials I had thru the years.

I have a really nice strat, but I put one of those single blade humbucker dimarzios in teh bridge and tow single coils in the middle and neck positions. For me and this is me, the strat is more of a roots rock, blues, and even country guitar. I didnt like it with the single coils cause I tend to play with too much gain and it would get noisy in clubs. But I realized that in my own band I was trying to make it sound like a LP. Back in the late 80s and 90s I used it and a LP at gigs to get the tonal differences. It pretty much stays in the case these days, in fact Ive thought about leaving it and a small fender amp I have at my GFs, to stay with the Washburn acoustic I have there. Yea thats the plan.

I have an Epiphone Sheraton. This is in my mind a very underated guitar. I had the jones's for a Gibson 335 ala Lucille a few years back, but they were pretty expensive. A friend of mine worked in a music store and I was in there one day and he said have you ever played one of these. Im like man that is sacriligious to me, An Eppy. anyway I had played a few 335s and when I sat down with the Sheraton it felt to my hands and to my ears to be very similiar to the 335. Got it for 250 bucks. I used it on gigs for a while just for something different. Now adaysit sits in its case, I do have it set up for slide guitar, but I havent opened that case in what 2 years.

I have a Gibsom ES-175, sweet guitar with the smoothest humbuckers that Ive ever played on. It was a gift from an old friend who had a wedding reception and wanted us to play. He didnt have the money so I struck a deal with him for the guitar in leu of pay. Im not sure what its worth. He won it in this contest and the band Switchfoot signed it, its also got a AYM sticker on it now.

I have a Cort Acoustic, why ? well a freind came to one of my acoustic shows a few years ago and let me play it and i didnt want to put it down, I think it was 500 dollars, I think the acoustic songs on my player were all done with it

I have a Fender P Bass, with a Baddass tailpiece and EMG active pickup. Great Bass, its a 77 model and Ive had it since the early 80s. I have done gigs and sessions with it, and to be honest at one time I was probably a much better bass player than I will ever be in guitar, I just wasnt cool enough to stay in the shadows and lay back on bass LOL

Thats the bulk of my guitar arsenal. I have many no name electrics and acoustics, I should get them all out sometime lay them on the floor and lay in the middle of them and get some pictures for my profile shots, Yeah just might have to do that


Oh yeah back to the subject, I play the LPs in my band cause we are 3 piece with a singer, so my guitar live has to fill up a lot of space, to my ears even my strat with a humbucket just doesnt have that presence to it, or any of my other guitars for that matter, plus being the ole Zep Head I am, when Ive got that baby slung real low it just looks cool to me LOL
