I purposely titled this to warn you - right-wingers & left-wingers will prolly fight tooth & nail, but I maintain that these articles pretty well describe the state of US politics, & the US gov't's responses to Wikileaks, to a "T."

The US gov't's biggest concern, over the last several months, would seem to have been trying to put the rabbit back into the hat, or the toothpaste in the tube, or whatever analogy you prefer. Unfortunately, it isn't happening.

Silly remarks by US ambassadors & such aside, the largest single threat to the US would seem to be the revelations about how deeply the corporate world is entrenched within its gov't, & how they threaten the world's citizens. In some ways, these leaks seem to validate many of the claims made by our worst enemies & "liberals" (which, some would say, are interchangeable) against the US.

Looking at how Bradley Manning is being kept in our most notorious (& un-Constitutional) prison, how some of those journalists involved have been threatened by law firms representing the USA (but who ALSO represent the Bank Of America), the claims that at least one of their own has been killed, how the USAF has made even looking at Wikileaks info "an act of espionage," & all of those other over-the-top reactions to it all, one cannot but wonder about how much of this information is true, & why our gov't would want us all to be kept so uninformed about it, even as the rest of the civilized world may digest it all as freely as they can, considering the US involvement in shutting down sites that distribute it, & other tactics to stop the flow of info.

It would be most dangerous for us all to be well-informed of the acts of our gov't, to know about how the banks & other global corporations intend to control us through the relecommuniications industry, our food & water, our medicines, our incomes, our freedom to travel, & our education. Yeah, it would be a huge problem for those who would rule, for our eyes to be opened enough to see their plans, their behind the scenes manipulation of us all. It would ruin them for us to be exposed to the unbelievable amount of CORRUPTION in the halls of the Capotal building, the Whitre House, White Hall, et al.

I believe it's every American's DUTY to LOOK for this information, that we may be informed of the actions of those who consider themselves so far above us. It may be too late for us to bring about a peaceful change, but it is becoming more obvious to many of us that a huge change IS in order.

It's time to quit being so fearful of our gov't, & time to investigate it, & fix all that is wrong in there.

We must also keep in mnd that not necessarily ALL of the info out there is true, because there are so many groups & folks with personal agendas. The info needs to be sifted to check for truth, which is something that we've all been missing for a very long time in our gov't & our news media.

The elephant in the room that nobody notices is how Bradley Manning got the information in the first place. Why was a private allowed access to classified information from the State Department? What does a private have to do with diplomatic intel? How did he know what it is was, did he seriously just download "supersekret.txt" and upload it to WikiLeaks? It wasn't even encrypted...
Can you just imagine how many other people might have exploited this and passed intel to foreign governments without saying anything?

The people who are really at fault here are the designers of the security system, and officials that signed off on the implementation.

When so much government classified material is on computers it won't be long before somebody hacks into it OR somebody inside is PAID enough money to leak it. It's all a big game of espionage, nothing new here really. It's been going on since homo sapiens formed societies and governments. There's always people who want power over others, and there's always going to be people who want to access it. I'm NEVER suprised at any of this...

Actually, I quite agree with the original post. Not sure what wing I would qualify as... Constitutional Libertarian who beleives in freedom even when it hurts.

Private enterprise should be protected. Private citizens should be protected from entities that become large enough to infringe upon freedom.

I also quite thouroughly agree with the concept that a private bank issueing the public currency is more of a threat than a standing army.

When I was younger I was a euphoric anarchist. I now see that some sort of organization is needed. Mainly to keep the insanity in check.

When people are struggling to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads, all the arts suffer. This includes visual , scientific , IT , published , and even music. Dajax doesn't understand that when gas hits $3.40 a gallon, heating bills another $ 300 a month, electric bills are suddenly another $100 a month... people stop being interested in pursuing the arts. In my heart I have to start another band and I would love to just talk music, not inane drivel but real things that pertain to the arts. Very difficult to drain the swamp when you are knee deep in leaches.

Interesting but Phil is right about many things he brings up. Why the Hell are military computers even on line ? Have our ambassadors stopped using secure methods of communication?

How come so much of this is usurping the truth and the will of the American people?

Why has the use of presidential power become the tool of power, to bypass the will of the people, and bypass The senate and the house? ( I'm not just talking about president Obama). I.E. the FDA deciding incandescent light bulbs are no longer efficient and we have to replace them with poisonous CFL's. that contain mercury are expensive and ultimately will end poisoning Americans.

It is amazing that all the blame has been passed onto the evil corporations that put MILLIONS of people to work Pay tremendous taxes and provide goods that the average person could only dream about without the efficiency of their evil. Even Mr Obama has come to realize that the US government can throw as much money away in stimulus, but the real creator of paychecks is PRIVATE BUSINESS.

What is truly not fair is the way OUR GOVERNMENT has allowed a billion dollar corp to have a greater voice than the will of the people. Lobby.

What bothers me most is not that, but , seeing the revolt in Egypt, there are public figures calling for the end of America.

I don't think so, Dajax, I'm with you, I just want to get back to playing music.
