Ello folks,
I'm new to Bandmix and impatient as hell, was just wondering if you had any stories to pass on maybe from an audition through this site? Good, bad or funny.
Preferably humorous.
Peace!

I guess the best was some guys about 5 years ago that got me thru here.

They said we just need a lead guitar to complete our blues band and start gigging, at the time I had been out of it for a while so I go over. We try to play some tunes, they dont really know any, LOL. Its more like lets do a 12 bar in G and you just do what you want. So we play in G for what seems like forever, I can cover a lot fo ground in solos, but still after 10 minutes Ive done all I want. Then we try Hey Joe and the litttle tandem bass/guitar line after the solo, the bassist can not comprehend what Im doin even after about 10 minutes of me showing him in slow motion.

We messed around in a few more keys, they couldnt seem to grasp B or C for some reason LOL. So we get doen and they say what do you think? I turn it around and say what do you guys think? Well in a couple of practices with you on board we can be out and playing, I had this old song list with all kinds of stuff on it, I said well when you guys can play all these songs then call me and we will talk some more.

You would think in 5 years they could learn 50 songs, duh

Not so much funny but a little odd: I was contacted to play for a local cover band and the promise of doing some original stuff. Previously I was contacted by a local guitarist a few days before and I was really enthused about his talents and ideas. I declined the offer for the band, because I didn’t know how much time and effort I would be dedicating towards the co-writing. So during one of our sessions I tell my co-writer the story about the cover band and he starts to laugh. It turns out that he is the rhythm guitarist in that same band. On occasion I go to their gigs to give some support, but the leader, their vocalists, is a little leery of myself having declined his group offer.

Not amusing. A had to be there kinda thing.
Set up an audition with a drummer I met here via the search function.
After the fact I found out the day scheduled was our front mans anniversary or something and he would be out of town.
He had told me about it ahead of time but I guess in the excitement of the moment I forgot to pull my head out of my butt.

Anyway, I called the drummer back told him the situation and he still wanted to come out. It was just he and I.
I cranked up and ran though as much of our original material as I could on my own. The drummer never missed a beat. It was like he was there when we wrote it.
Steve-o has been there behind us ever since.
Just goes to show you never know till you go !! 8)

In the meantime the group I played thru highschool with and on a few years called me out of the blue to rejoin. For a while I did try to play in other groups, but for me it was pointless, an endless stream of wanna bes who had no idea what it means to get out and work in a band. But Im fortunate that I got to get back with my ole buds, we are all on the crest of 50 and quite honestly on multi bill with much younger bands the past few years have kicked some serious ass. We also have a following that will come out 150-200 strong whenever we do a gig.

Why do I stay on bandmix? I have no honest answer other than I admire and respect some of the members here and it is a place to keep in touch, post pictures, talk music gear, and just the basics of playing rock n roll in a hack hard rock cover band. I at this point tend to steer away from politics on here and religion and the general slamming of other members that goes on here. In my mind to each his own.

Good Luck in your quest for a band, I have played with around 10 people total that I met thru here. Ive had one member pass thru and stay at my house on road trips and Ive gone locally and seen another member that came on tour in my area a year or so ago.

It can be a cool place if it suits your taste, I dont really think you will get in a band thru this site, my experience all the people I met didnt meet my expectations or I didnt meet thiers. But who knows you might find the perfect folks to play with thru here.

Welcome Jahva! I'm listening to mother. It's nice and full. Well done. Will be listening more. I invite you to listen to mine. Do you do everything yourself? I do some of that myself. "I think i love you" in my profile is a case of all parts performed and recorded by me.

Hey Jahva. Welcome to the circus.

Are you a real Cackalackie? Born n raised? I love Nort Carlina. Like your tunes. Can you please write something uplifting sometime?

You do know that you look like Roger Doltrey dont ya.

Now that we got that out of the way.......let me know when you're playin' out near Durham/Raleigh. Lots of room for your style here. This area is getting hot with places to play. All kinds of music and indie labels.

welcome to the forums Jahva!
I got auditioned from the band I was in from this site, and now we have moved and started a better band.
I get emails at least every month,
and auditions at least every 2.
I'm not lying about that part; however:
some people refuse to read your interest and the rest of your profile, and audition you for something way off track. And all people of all genres come here. So be prepared to face being turned down, or even funny, being accepted and not wanting to play for them.

Cheers and I hope you find what your looking for!

Scratchy,
Actually form Ohio, but NC is cool. At least for the weather.
The triangle seems to be the place to be in the state. Lots of musicians, clubs, happenings...
"And the morals that they worship will be gone"

Klugmatato,
What... no Orbison on the influence list? Nice and smooth man!

Had 16 songs on profile but removed them because some are being re-recorded. The one I left is a middle of the road kinda song.
