Laurel & Hardy were arguably the greatest comedy duo in show business history. I believe they made upwards of 65 "nice vids." They also arguably were the biggest silent film stars who became bigger stars in the "talkies." Their teaming came about completely by accident. Stan Laurel had pretty much retired from acting and was a gag man, somebody who wrote comedy routines into movies. He was involved in the making of a movie starring Oliver Hardy who injured his hand. The director asked Stan to step in and do some acting to get the movie done. Thousands of fans wrote letters to the studio to see if "fatty and skinny" could be teamed again, they had instant on-screen chemistry. The rest is history...
