My debut with my new band was last night and it was awesome....but... out of nowhere, the singer announced that I was going to give the crowd the pleasure of a good 80's style solo  Next thing I know is all the band members just walked off stage and for a moment I was like a deer in headlights! I WANTED TO KILL THEM! I wasn't prepared for anything like this so I just "twiddled" my way out of this... I personally find it sloppy but the crowd loved it!

Its Improv... there is no warning, and the training is the riffs you do when your stretching in new strings.

It is bits and pieces that inspired you to play guitar, you cut into the inner musician and let them bleed out if the instrument onto the soundstage.

You did fine by the way. I personally would back off the speed a bit, you have it, but the tastiest stuff (and crowd response) was the melodies and tight riffs as opposed to the "Shredding". But that's a taste issue and to each their own.

+1 to the passed the audition.

Thanx Guys....

@ Dewey.. I know that it's improv and you just do it from your head right on spot... but...I was not in any way, shape or form expecting this; especially that this is more of an alternative/dance type band. Back in the day when I knew I was going to solo, I would have a bunch of clean, clear riffs put together for precisely this reason... I haven't done this in over 2 decades and I would've like to have at least been a little prepared so I could use a more "organized" solo... I just....twiddled...

Excellent job. Not my style, I couldn't touch some of the riffs you used, but very good still. I'd have to do more of a blues based thing, and could pull it off with or without warning, but then I love to play under pressure, it brings out the best in me. Probably did for you too even if you didn't realize it. Nothing like it, my favorite thing to do. Put me on the spot and somehow it just works...

You did exceptionally well with it, I would have liked to see better lighting on the video though, couldn't see you or what you were doing except when cameras flashed.

Overall, I think you did quite well. Good tone, great licks, and the most important thing, you didn't freeze under pressure.

Can't beat it with a stick.

WOW! Thanks, Paleopete.. All these positive responses coming from you guys really holds a lot of weight as we are all musicians here and not just a fan base.... All my "fans" just loved it but I personally know that in the future, I'm going to work on a nice, clean and well thought out solo!

Well, plan it out if you want to, but for me, it usually works better if I improvise. Right off the top of my head, and throw in a few "standard" things, and I usually can do pretty well. According to what I saw earlier, you can do the same and pull it off.
