Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize itself into an undercover dictatorship. ~ Dr. Benjamin Rush (a signer of the Declaration Of Independence)

I would imagine it means "having the freedom to choose one's own methods of treatment &/or medication."

He was handsome, well-spoken, a gentleman and a very attractive figure-he was also a gossip and was quick to rush to judgement about others. He was supremely confident of his own opinion and decisions, yet shallow and very unscientific in practice. His chief accomplishment as a physician was in the practice of bleeding the patient. It was said that he considered bleeding to be a cure for nearly any ailment. Even when the practice began to decline, he refused to reconsider the dangers of it. He died at the age of 68 at his home in Philadelphia, the most celebrated physician in America.

Cashiers, Carpet Salesmen, Plumbers, Computer techs,
Tree Doctors, AC techs, Tire salesman and Doctors.
All occupations have good and bad representation.
I have met many good Docs. and I have met many Bad Docs.
It is natural and I think trained into us from birth to expect all doctors to
be smart and honest and to have nothing but your best interests
in mind. This is unrealistic because they are human beings and pocess
emotions and problems just like the rest of us. There are those that
will let you die because you cant pay for treatment and there are those
that will treat you for free. Some will rip-off your insurance co. and some will avoid unnecessary tests to save for the greater good.
Like with all the other service providers you have to judge them not
trust them. I think a lot of what people are charged is out of control
of the Docs. They have service providers too. (x-rays, MRIs, blood work)
The real problem doesn't sit with the Docs. I believe. It's further up.

Yes, Klugmo - it's that "undercover dictatorship!" Dr Rush never said it would be the Dr's that would do it. It's a combination of the pharmaceutical firms, the insurance co's, AND the hospital/medical conglomerates that have all teamed together to take every red cent they can from anyone who is sick or injured.

IMO, doctors my age and under don't even know how to prescribe medicine properly. They're in it for their status and cash.

My definition of medical freedom is the absolute freedom to choose whatever treatment option I want AND that ALL treatment options are covered under ANY insurance plan. We absolutely do NOT have medical freedom. I know of no insurance policy that recognizes naturopathic treatments and will NOT reimburse me for paying for them. My son is autisitc and is on Medicaid. I do NOT have the right to treat my son naturally and MEDICAID will NOT pay for it AND I will be considered abusive if I stop his presrciptions in favor of a natural treatment method. We do NOT have medical freedom in this country. The pharmaceutical companies and mainstream medical establishment have us by the testicles and will NOT let go...It's 100% about $$$$$$$ PERIOD.
