An elementary school in Massachusetts prohibited sixth-grade students from carrying "any writing implements" not given to them by teachers. Those who carried their own pencils were assumed to be building "weapons." The ban has since been rescinded.

I guess pens and pencils issued by teachers must not be quite as sharp as those brought into school by the students...

Meh, there's huge opportunities you miss out on that aren't available for homeschoolers. Without public schools, I wouldn't play guitar, I wouldn't be at this college, I wouldn't have most things that shaped me.

The biggest opportunity there is for kids in public and private schools is Academic Decathlon. Through the program, I leaned more than I thought existed on a wide variety of topics, and met people and made friendships across the country. Call your local high school and ask them if they have Acadec. If they sy no, ask them "Why the hell not?"

I'm giving your public school a "D-" for your improper punctuation and those misspelled words...

Heh, I typed that while struggling to keep my eyes open. I'm not surprised it was so bad.

Stupidity knows no ideology.

In the words of George Carlin, "f**k THE CHILDREN."
