Friday, November 26, 2010 - The Farleys at The Old Miami. I asked my friend Pat "in the hat" McComber to open for us. He did a great job, even though he was nervous from not playing a gig in two years. He started out with a bunch of XTC songs (my request) and also played some Talking Heads ("Nothing But Flowers") and ELO ("Telephone Line"). But it was his original song "Balls" that got my attention. The song talks about the scientific impact of balls through the ages; Galileo, Newton, Kepler and Einstein all developed theories based on 'balls'; cannon balls, apples, planets and atoms. Very cool!

The Farleys totally killed the Miami with two sets of loud and raucus jams. We played our four new originals, as well as a couple of new covers. Rasta destroyed an old lap top after declaring that he needed to "update my status". Old friends and new all commented how much they enjoyed the show. A guy named Joe came up to me and told me he loved hip hop and rap the most and didn't usually listen to rock and roll but that he really enjoyed our sets. Even the hipster students from Wayne State hung around and got off on the geezers playing punk rock. What a blast!
