Genre Choices too limited

I have been a member of BandMix for a while now and I have had some success (not a lot) finding people to play with. I realized recently that BandMix has a fundamental error that limits a user's ability to be searched out by other musicians. Searches are limited by the number of genre choices a user can pick from the profile page. If you enjoy and can play music from more than 3 genres you should be able to put that out there. When I called BandMix about the issue they told me they "can't" do anything about it....which actually means they "will not" do anything about it. Disappointing since I've put a good amount of $ in their pockets. Do you think BandMix should allow you to choose more than 3 genre choices for your profile?

Why do you need more? You've only got one listed.

Not really necessary IMO.

I can type whatever I want into my profile information and descriptions.

Where the heck in Shenandoah Junction?

Eh, I think genre listing is kind of vague, anyway.

For example: Even if I list "country" as one of my genres (which I do have experience in), it may not be the same country music that the next guy thinks of...I have played a variety of country styles, but I can honestly say that if someone contacted me-wanting me to play Taylor Swift-it would all be new to me.

My point is unless you are going for something very specific, it's not worth worrying about. And if you ARE going for something more specific, you have plenty of room to make note of that in your profile. JMO.

Thanks for letting me known...forgot to reset it today. The reason for more than 3 is that I can play and enjoying playing more than 3....again, thanks for letting me known.

Yes, you can type whatever info you want in your descriptions but I don't think that info gets picked up in a genre search. For example: let's say you like playing country, jazz, blues, folk, classic rock, and reggae. You only get to choose 3 in the genre category (on your profile) leaving the others off the radar so to speak.

If the system lets you choose as many instruments you play it should do the same for genres.

...also being told that they "can't" do something about it is little disingenuous and irritating.

LOL! I wondered where Shenandoah Junction was too when I first moved here (eastern panhandle). I'm from DC/Baltimore and was use to having more players around.

True.
Not been an issue for me as I do not limit my search to any genre' or instrument for that fact. My searches are about locating and networking with people in my geographical region.
I try not to place any artificial limitations for my purpose.

I tend to agree with upnightz on this. Not only would it be helpful for searching, but in seeing how other sites break down genre, I found the bandmix list kind of limiting.

I like how "other" is a genre. I am an Other.
