Posted: Tue Dec 14, 2010 12:04 amRicky's are totally different animal. They have a double truss-rod, for one thing. For another, anyone who is into 'em will tell ya NEVER to compress 'em, cuz they have such a unique sound, that, once compressed, just makes it sound like a generic thing.
I'd really like to have one in my arsenal, but I wouldn't use it on everything.
The Musicman? I dunno. Someone decided it's the titz, I guess. I've played one, & it was pretty nice, but I've played a lot better for the same $.
As I recall, the Beatles used a Hofner violin bass, though Lennon did have a nice 6 string Ricky.

that's correct, but once in a while McCartney did use a Ricky bass.
