Just though I would outline the process I have been using for some of you indie folks in preparation for our CD release.
The music of course was recorded at JoySound in Longview Texas.
I obtained an LG "Super Multi" CD / DVD burner that has LIGHT SCRIBE capability.
Using light scribe discs, I first burned the basic information I wanted on the top of the disks using the program that came with the burner.
Ray provided me with the art and calligraphy for the inserts ( inside and outside information ) in a photo format.
I put them in my system and added a full boarder so that when I size them ( 14mm square ) and print them on photo paper, I can more accurately cut them out.
Due to the fact that I am joining front and back halves. I also put a black border on the back of each photo with a Sharpie. So that any irregularities in the cut out don't display the white backside of the other photo.
Then ( after cutting the two halves out and placing them back to back ) I laminate them together with a SCOTCH thermal laminating machine, cut to fit the inside cover of the slim CD cases, burn the music and any personalized message I want ( if any ) to the CD and assemble.
I used one of our fans as a guinea pig ( with her permission ) and had recorded and burned a personal message of thanks on her CD.
She said it scared the crap out of her as she was night driving the first time she played the CD and all of a sudden it called her by name and started talking to her He he he heeee.
I'm sure there is an easier method. But with my limited computer skill, budget, and hardware. I feel it works pretty well for small run batches of CD's
Plus it gives me the option to do customized CDs for our fans. Any list of songs any order, with their name on the disk if they wish.
