Love Steely Dan...Everytime I see a SD video, I find myself checking their other songs. I get stuck in a Steely Dan black hole and I can't get out.

I know what you mean Mary! I have enjoyed them SD for so long but they hardly ever tour so there is not a lot of video of them out there that I know of! Thanks to the advent of the internet (or my discovery of it) that has all changed. When I found this video I don't know if ya'll could tell but I was definately stuck in a SD black hole event horizon. When that type of thing happens it usually takes another band to pull me out LOL!

Steely Dan is one of my favorite all time bands, it just doesn't get a whole lot better than that IMO......

Definitely can't get too much of SD or anyone who works with them...or anyone who does SD covers.

They really did something that no one else did at the time...
They combined R&R and jazz and made it commercial by the shear quality of the music.
I rented a house from this guy once and after talking to him a while he let's on he used to be in the record biz and he used to work alot with SD.
He said it would drive session players crazy because they'd be used to comming in for a recording session, nail it in three takes and be on their way.
But Becker and Fagen would make them play 20 or 30 takes and he said these guys would just freak out...get angry as hell...but put out the best takes of their lives and admit it afterwards.
Musical geniuses IMO......

Took me a few songs to get used to Fagan's vocal tones, but then I was hooked!
Love their work.

Philby, call me strange but I like Fagan's voice...I really like it. It's Steely Dan's trademark.

I agree. It's a signature sound. It just took a cpl songs for me to accept it...

I'm a big fan of anyone who names their band after a sex toy.
Back in the day we used to "expand" our consciousness and debate the meaning of Dan lyrics. Like "Everyone's Gone To The Movies" - was that about sexploitation?
