I have a last name that is not very common, Hayett. Occasionally I go on search engines and plug my name in to see if there are any other Hayetts in the world I'm unaware of. I couldn't believe when Mohammad Hayett popped up. I think he might be a professor at a place called Daffodil University in Bangladesh of all places. I just laughed my butt off. There's a few other Hayett's around the country and world that are not related. There's either a reggae vocalist or band in Jamaica called Loyal Hayett. I would assume they are African American, again quite likely unrelated to me. There's a marathon runner and squash player in New Zealand, husband and wife, with the last name Hayett. There was a young guy recently who chose the pseudonym (pen-name) last name Hayett. I sent him a blog message thanking him for the honor of using my last name. He promptly changed his pen-name to Blakelee! (I should have kept my mouth shut). There was a high school basketball player in Los Angeles named Nabil Hayett (sounds African American). It's fascinating to see all these people who have my last name and they are completely unrelated. There is also a coat-of-arms somewhere in England or Scotland dating back centuries with my last name. Actually I pop up the most of any Hayett, on disc golf websites, music websites, and fishing websites. Of all the Hayetts I may be the most famous. I guess you could say I'm world famous fisherman bob Hayett...

Didn't the Nazi's use your name every time they saluted, Sig Heil? You've got a famous name. I'll bet there are Heils all over the world. I wouldn't be surprised if there are Eskimos and Pygmies named Heil (probably not related to you)!

Honestly though the last name was (according to family legend ) shortened when the refugee / deserter side of my family came to America. And we have been thus unable to trace that side of ancestry to "the old country".

Who knows what my actual name is? My descendants came through Ellis Island just like millions of other Americans' ancestors. When they came through they said their name to the person at the turnstile, they wrote down whatever they thought it sounded like. My name has many different spellings. I could have thousands of relatives in the U.S. But like your ancestors when they entered this country they SIGNED THE GUESTBOOK AND IN EARNEST LEARNED ENGLISH. Not exactly what a lot of illegal immigrants do today. English is a great language but it is difficult for foreigners to learn. Those that want to become citizens usually learn it with zeal. Those that want to rip us off and send money back home usually don't give a sh*t.
