Hey there,
I am writing an essay on this site for english class. A question i need help answering is, why is there the paying member and the free member? What is the difference? what does the paying member get that the free member doesnt? etc.
Thanks

a free user doesn't get to contact other users, and has less storage space for music, pics, and videos.

I pay annually because it gives me more memory on my profile page and because I like to be able to contact other members one on one if I want.
I have used the system both ways for several years adjusting to fit my need.
When the dues come around again I will decide which option best fits my need for the coming year.

I got contacted today actually. A good reason to pay if you're looking for the right people to jam with. I would rather pay and be taken more seriously than possibly "lose out".
You get what you put in to it.
Now pay me for helping you with your assignment!

The paying member gets rejected by more people.
The student pays the paying member for supplying research data.

I am a free member for a couple reasons.
1) I'm in a 'musical dead zone:' rural, very few musicians.
2) I need someone to sing and play bass for all originals. Less people available.
3) I need a high quality singer and a high quality bass player - still fewer musicans available.
4) I need someone dedicated. Still less people available, locally
5) There are many other sites that provide this same service for free. And, if I paid, I would get nothing in return; most od the internet folks I met can talk better than they play. I met all my musicians face-to-face at open mikes, after first hearing their skills.
6) Most folks in my area play heavy metal, country, bluegrass, oldies and folk. I compose a few dozen styles of music, but of the most prevelant local styles of music, I only play folk. I do mostly jazz , blues, pop, light rock . . .
7) I'm here because sometimes some of the music blogs are interesting.

In my opinion the paid Bandmix member gets a better quality contact than the "free" websites such as Craig's List, Backpage.com, etc. When somebody pays to contact people they tend to be a little more serious about their music. I put free in " " because Craig's List and Backpage aren't really free. There are many paid features on those websites. The same goes for Myspace and Facebook. You can join for free but look at all the banner ads and paid features there. For the purposes of your English paper I'd say you get what you pay for. Bandmix the way it is set up is a very user friendly site and does what I want it to do for my music business.

Paying members care that the site is filled with spam, bots and other issues that may or may not induce insanity...

You have to be a paying member to be contacted? I thought getting contacted was free, but contacting others required a payed membership.

Correct. A paid member can initiate contact. A free member can respond to the paid member.
