I've been trying to find a female lead vocalist/front person for my established coverband in mass. for two months now. I can't believe how difficult it has been! In the 80's we would have to hold auditions for a week, and weed out the good ones. Now I can't even get a response to a classified add. When I do get a response from the TIRE-KICKERS on this site i get stuff like this: ...........You guys sound great , but I don't have a car , will that be a problem?.........What does coverband mean?.........I'm a great singer, but I work weekend nights, is that a problem?.........I'm 500lbs. and I have a large tumor growing out of my forehead, will that be a problem?.........I want to sing in your band , but I have advanced stage fright.......I've never sang in front of people before.........No thanks, the band i'm in now sucks, and i'm comfortible with that........You guys sound professional, I don't have good stage presence, will that be a problem?... "WHAT THE f**k HAPPENED TO LOCAL MUSIC" aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah now I feel better. I have to go cancel all my booked gigs for this summer.....bye Frustrated :(

 I'm still laughing about the 500 lb chick with the forehead tumor !!! I feel for you guys....its hard enough to book the gigs but when you have to cancel them, that sucks. It also makes it tough to re-book once you have everything in place because anywhere you have cancelled will think of you as flakes.

Best of luck !!

If its that hard to find a female wouldn't a male be an alternative instead of cancelling gigs?Or are you a Heart cover band?I can't find a keyboard player but our band is just as strong without one.But I do have to laugh at your responses cause I think we've heard them all.How about,I'd like to join your band,do I need a guitar?

Heart cover band? No such animal. The term would be. HEART TRIBUTE BAND. Lead Vocalist is a little different than adding keys. Adding a keyboard player to an already working project, is like adding a pretty paint job to a dump truck. Better but not necessasary. Now split the pay 5 ways. You'll see what i mean. Unless your not getting payed and then i guess its not a problem.........

difference of opinion

You can't find a lead vocalist,I can't find keys.I don't see much difference except my band has three leads and play guitars.Wow,what a concept. The keys add the depth that was used in the 60's,70's and 80's which is what Exit 20 performs, classic rock.We do play for money but we aren't greedy if making the sound we want takes 5 people. We aren't just a bar band.Good luck with your search cause ours won't make or break us from playing out.

big difference

I think you just said it.........It will break us and it won't break you guy's. That is the big difference. We perform 95% female artists,so to replace that with male vocals would be a little shady. We play in downtown Boston where the pay averages $800.00-$1,200.00 per night. 4 members, 5 members, do the math :) Also whether your playing BARACUDA at The PURPLE SHAMROCK in BOSTON, or FREEBIRD at the AMERICAN LEGION in OLEANS, the sad truth is............."You are in a bar band" <grin> Peace Jon, Eddie B. we could go in circles but bottom line is I'm happy with what I do and I'm not greedy for money.I want a top notch band and I'm getting it even if its a "bar band".I get about $800.00/wk and thats all I need to live comfortably.P.S.we don't play Freebird..........:) or Creedence.I'm glad you checked our website.

That wasn't a shot dude :) I love Freebird (Skynard's tribute to Duane Allman) And I'm a huge CCR fan, You should add them both to your set. If i'm ever in N.Y. i'll come check you guys. First one is on me.....:)

We have had the same problem several times over the last couple years. I have a classified going now with no responses. I dont know about anywhere else but here it's because everyone who is even half serious moves somewhere else which is probably what I should have done years ago.

Funny, I am in the exact opposite position. I am a female singer/songwriter/guitarist that is in desperate need of a band. If only I didnt live thousands of miles away from you!!!!! oh how life sucks sometimes
