Well.... The original establishment that we were supposed to play tonight was sold to a new owner and he decided to play musical chairs with our band! We were originally supposed to be the main act with an opening act and one to follow us.... instead, the new owner decided to throw 7 freakin' bands into the venue and had us going on at midnight or later... I respectfully called and told them that that was a complete clusterfuck and we refuse to play under those terms. I managed to get us a gig at a different establishment on the same night and we will be the ONLY band to play! Hopefully we can direct all the peeps that were supposed to go to the orignal club over to the new club!
TO EVERYONE GOING TO SEE PANIK ATACK THIS SATURDAY NIGHT:THE BAND WILL NO LONGER BE PLAYING AT TRAXX IN RONKONKOMA,WE WILL BE AT KATIES IN SMITHTOWN.HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE.GONNA BE A BLAST!!!

Yup... A lot of these clubs do that...Very greedy muthafukkaz! Some of them stat at 5pm just to fill the club with as many people as they can. A lot of these "starter" bands gladly play just for the sake of playing and as long as they bring friends down, the club is happy because they don't shell out a cent to the band. The band gets money from whoever they bring down! Meanwhile the club rakes in in on their end from the business at the bar!

Yup, the clubs do that in LA a lot. The idea is the more bands, the more people and the likelihood those people will hang around and keep buying drinks, especially if they have pool tables and other stuff to keep people there.
It's not bad really, but at the same time, that's b.s. to move your band to midnight when you were already scheduled to perform.
Have a good gig.

So little I know about the modern "bar scene".
Best wishes on your gig Kerry.

I would've done the same ... I ain't packing all that gear for a 1 to 1 1/2 hr gig and then start at midnight ... sh*t. I've never played in a situation like that unless it's a outdoor fest. or we're opening for a head-liner.
We have venues like that around here too (that book muilt bands) but the bands have min. draw.

Good for you canceling that A-hole. It sounds like you couldn't have seen a cent either with 7 bands playing.

Just another example of real working musicians getting ripped off. The idiots who are playing for free are stabbing themselves in the foot. When I hear of people playing for free I want to wring their necks. IF THE VENUE IS MAKING A PROFIT OFF YOU THEN YOU NEED TO DEMAND YOUR FAIR SHARE. Otherwise you're giving away a lot of hard work and screwing all your fellow musicians in the process...

Can't argue with that logic.

Crip, the only problem with KATIES is the stage,,, It's tiny Kerry. I hate small stages, and even worse to get across R&R you need to be able to CRANK it.
Sucks, Huh!!!!
