How about prayer and faith?

Does it work? Here's a testimony I just got.

A friend of mine was told she had cancer on her lung, and in her lymphnodes. She had surgery a little over a week ago. Docs told her that they couldn't get out all of the disease because they would've had to cut part of her tongue out. Well, turns out they found more during surgery the size of a walnut, so they cut that out. She was told it would take three weeks to recover.

What could I have done? What did I do? I earnestly prayed and believed that she would come out a lot better...but I did have my doubts too. I know I wasn't the only one praying on her behalf.

Anyways, I just got a call from her and it turns out that from the tests, that what was surgically removed isn't cancer! Mind you, the biopsy and blood tests indicated that it was before the operation. Also, her lung no longer has a spot on it.

The girl is already back to work and able to talk again. Isn't that a trip?!

Fifty miles per hour down the highway on my GS 1000 in around 82.
Car turns left in front of me and stops.
I only had time to stand, say " Take me Jesus " out loud before hitting her car and doing several flips over it.
I landed about five yards on the other side of her car, no helmet.
My bike still running stuck in the opposite side of her front wheel well.
The guy in the gas station whom drug me out of the road said I had to have been 15 ft in the air.
I walked away, not a scratch.

After cheating on my wife for an extended period of time.
I prayed with my wife to heal her and my wounds and heal my family.
That's been some time ago, and we are working on our 30th anniversary, still best friends.

This week, after examining our finances, I asked my Father for guidance.
Less than an hour latter the phone rang.
I'm now booked to work four days this week.

I could go on and on.

When the Holy Ghost went through this non-believer I kinew that prayer means something DE-FACTO.

Yeah don't let me get started, my stories about prayer aren't for the slight of heart.

It works, known since I was 18.

I don't knock anyone for having faith or using prayer but it seems like too many people try to use it for personal gain. Instead, how about praying for peace or an end to famine? Besides, even if there's a God I doubt if He is that concerned whether or not you win the lottery.

You pray for what you think is important and I will the same.

Telling people what to pray for is akin to telling people which religion to practice.

"Don't overstep your boundaries or step on people's beliefs".

Do I believe prayer works? Absolutely.

Do I believe that some people attribute the power of prayer to things which regular science or sh*t happens affects? Far too many.

But in saying that, does it really matter if it was the power of prayer or just plain old good luck? No.

The problem I have with prayer are the times when it doesn't work, it devastates people. They blame God or blame the person or themselves, thinking they did something for it not to have worked.

For instance, two people get cancer. They're both very spiritual and fairly decent people. They pray, their friends and church prays for them. One gets better the other dies. Maybe the one who got better is a single woman who doesn't do much with her life, just works and comes home then watches tv. The woman who died has three young children, helps the poor in her community and her family relies on her income from working. I've seen things like this happen a lot.

Some people will look at it that something must have gone wrong with the prayer of the other woman because she died. But maybe in her death some good became of it. Her family and friends started a foundation in her name to help the poor and more people contributed to it after her death than before. Maybe her husband found a strength he never knew he had and started a new business, making more money than before. I try to look at the big picture in these things.

Prayer is fine and I do pray when I get overwhelmed, but I do it more to help utilize my own strength.

Everyone believes their God is on their side and I believe whatever God is, God is on God's side. I don't see a supreme being sitting up there playing daddy to all of us. I don't think we can truly comprehend the energy that this Supreme Being, this Supreme Intelligence has. I believe as human beings, the Supremeness has given us its essence to tap into to make things work for ourselves. I don't presume that things will work out for me just because I prayed to something else. I try to do everything in my power to make it happen for myself.

It's a deep subject that I don't have a simple answer for. I can tell you that when I was at my lowest, I have communicated with voices and other beings who have given me the strength to pick myself up and keep going when I thought I couldn't possibly go on. One reason I wear the Ohm symbol around my neck is because I tapped into the essence that is Shiva (the Creator and Destroyer) who came to me and gave me a vision which uplifted me.

I'm not a particular religion. I acknowledge all spiritualities. I think the IS simply IS, religion is man's creation. It can manifest in many different forms which is why I respect and accept everyone.

True said Bob.

It's a bad comparison, yet it's much akin to stepping in cat poop barefoot.

There is no doubt in your mind what just happened.

I don't have to believe ... I know.

Absolutely Jimmy.

I rarely ever ask for anything for myself outside of patience and moral strength.
And quite often speak to my Father as I would speak to my father.
Good morning Father, really going to need your help today so's I dont twist off.
Me n dad are tight. He loves me despite my severe shortcomings as a man.

Ever wondered how to pray.
Read the Lords ( perfect ) Prayer.
It is truly all that is ever necessary.

I'm glad you all found something that you believe in, good for you.

I personally don't believe in any of the organised religions although it's been shown that meditation changes the brain and most of the major religions have meditation/prayer.

Ah

If your ever interested I would love to share with you.

I have practiced and mastered several types of meditation as a practitioner of Gung Fu.

Prayer & meditation ... not the same.

Once used The Lords Prayer as a mantra in meditation.

The spirit removed the words from my heart.

I could not recite them for nearly a week from my memory.

Meditation is the focusing of energy ( Chi ) inward, outward, or turning off of all internal dialog.

Prayer is simply communicating with the Creator.

Another thing that really pisses me off is when people try to use religion to prove to you how much they've changed. Like the woman that's scheduled to be executed. Suddenly she's born again, as if that's enough reason to keep her sorry ass alive. I hate to tell her this but even if there is a God I don't think she's going to meet Him.

I kinda thought this thread might lead to the "religion" topic. Which is cool. Really, I just wanted to share the news.

I'll just add that I'm not a religious person, but I do believe in the same God Sans and some others do. I believe people were created to do just about anything, by the divine who can do the impossible. I believe God is the biggest humanitarian, and therefore I can see why coming in the flesh was possible. I'll stop right there, cause I know some people get to thinking something is being shoved down their throat, which it isn't.

I definitely don't have the answers as to why some bad things happen, and some get saved from disaster. I've had a rough life, and lost a lot of people. I still question why certain things have failed for me, when I felt I deserved a break.

Anyways, I'm still the same guy last time I checked. Definitely not perfect, and definitely don't intend to stand on a podium. Heck, I started the boobs thread. The only changes I know of is that I've mellowed out a lot(a good thing).
