I'm a big sports fan and I thoroughly enjoyed watching Boise State beat Virginia Tech last night. Boise wasn't even a Division I football team until the last ten years or so. And now being a "non BCS team" it might be a "nightmare" if they end up undefeated and "have to" play for the national championship. What a bunch of B.S. All they do is win nearly every game they play and that includes beating mighty Oklahoma in the Fiest Bowl a few years back, beating Oregon in last year's opener, TCU in their bowl game last year and now Virginia Tech. I love how all the experts were saying that Tech was going to be "too athletic", "too fast", and "too strong" for Boise to keep up with. And then the style of Boise's offense reminds me of the San Francisco 49'ers dynasty years. When they have to move the ball down field they look unstoppable. They are the most fun team to watch play in college football IMO, even if they are a "non BCS team"...

Not really forced, LOL one son plays FB on Thursdays.
The other marches in the band on Friday.

Being the good father I am I want to show my support, despite hating team sports with an un-natural passion.

Bout half way through one game last year, after cursing the reff for obviously cheating for one of the local "rich boy" schools, I walked home to keep my butt out of jail.
I hate dishonesty, especially when it involves school boy sports.
Damn near went over the rails.

Being from Idaho originally (well, until a couple months ago, lol) I was definitely rooting for my home state team. It's been really neat watching them emerge as an NCAA power. That game against VT was great. I wish I could have stayed up to watch the whole thing! Darn East Coast time... Not used to it yet.

Today Virginia Tech lost to James Madison at home! I guess Boise State put them out of their misery...

Watching some high school and college level games recently I have to wonder.
Does anyone bother to teach form tackle technique to these glove wearing pansies ?

Not just the lack of football fundamentals but some of the coaching decisions I've seen recently don't make any sense. For instance how many times recently have you seen teams go for a short fourth down instead of kicking an easy field goal? When the teams don't make first down it gives a huge lift to the opposition and usually results in a loss. When you have almost a sure three points TAKE THE DAMN POINTS. Another dumbass coaching decision is calling time outs early in a half. EVERY time that happens the team wishes they had saved them for the end of the half. It never fails. Another thing that pisses me off is the "prevent" defense. That usually ends up preventing a win...

The varsity team lost Friday. Granted I only watched the first half.
I was there for the Band.

But the same finger tackling / non existent outside containment on defense plagues the whole system.

My son insists I can't blame coaching.
Of course, I know better.

Offensively the looked pretty good. Decent protection and execution and some really good blocks thrown.

These guys just don't understand the violence of action required for an effective defense.

What annoys me even more than going for it on fourth down when they can easily kick a field goal is when they have 4th and short around the opposing 45 and DON'T go for it. Is your defense really so bad you have to punt instead of picking up half a yard? It's not like it's your twenty.

Getting pumped to watch my brownies play... got my cribbs jersey on and i'm ready to go.

The seventh and eighth grade coaches teaching tackle fundamentals with a three foot thick pad behind these boys.
Ridiculous.
If you can't hit a man square up without even blinking your eyes you might as well go home.

heh, technique like that, they probably teach the boys to stand in one spot and try to wrap your arms around the runner as he goes past. Despicable. The one good thing I can say for Ohio is the schools in my area tend to teach defense right. With the fact that it pours every friday night like clockwork, If you don't takle right, that runner's gonna slide right outta there.
