Okay, bear with me. This was my first time operating the Flip in direct sunlight, so I could see in the beginning I was capturing the ground and everyone's heads. So if you scroll ahead a minute or so, it gets better. I was mainly testing it out and I wasn't too happy with the far away shots, they look kind of pixelated which is why I want a Sony Bloggie.

It's like 14 minutes long but the ending of the battle is pretty good.

I went to one at Droop Mt. (WV), many years ago...I'm practically surrounded by civil war sites, but rarely get to partake in the reinactments. I did go to Gettysburg on vacation this year, but was about 2 weeks too early to take in the replay.

*Useless fact (my specialty): I live about 30 minutes from Phillippi, WV, which was the site of the first Civil War land battle.

This is a very expensive hobby. I investigated it with my eldest son after our trip to Vicksburg.
Have an work associate whom was in an artillery brigade.
They had hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in cannon, small arms, uniforms, and camp equipment.

I love living history but can only afford enough time and money for one major hobby at a time.

It can cost you thousand of dollars and you'll invest a good $200 or more in uniforms, weapons and so on. And these groups are very strict on following the code as far as doing things proper.

What's nice is these people know their history and you can get into some very interesting conversations with people because they love nothing more than sharing their knowledge with you.

I have friends that do the Medieval Wars, Civil Wars and of course we do the Renaissance Faires and I'm part of a pirate reenactment group. If you want costumes and weapons, many folks are cool and you can put things on layaway. I do. Bartering works too.

This is cool. I took my son to a civil war camp years ago, at the county fair ( Ohio ). My husband has a document of a draft notice that his great great uncle received during the war. Many people do not realize that some men were drafted into the war. What was amusing about the draft notice was you did not HAVE to serve your "time" if you found someone to cover for you. Chay, remind me to bring it if you make it to the next gig at the Harp Inn.

I "met" George Washington and it was the best historical education I ever had. This is the way to learn history.

Friend of mine does this stuff. It's very expensive, & makes ya look weird. He always has the odd bushy moustache, anyway.

He also made it into a movie about Antietam. They show it in their lobby. I think it may have been on the History channel, once, too, but I missed it.

HE played the part of a southerner, but he has that hopelessly northern accent from Buffalo, almost sounds Canadian. LOL He had one line in the flick - "Let's get 'em, boys!" I think they ended up dubbing it in with someone else's voice.

I saw a Civil War renactment in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It was really awesome. I never knew how loud a musket is, let alone a canon til I saw it live.

@Phil, about looking weird, I hang around so many pirates with long white beards and such, I guess I've just become used to it. I saw a guy at the mall two weeks ago with a huge curly moustache. My daughter goes to him "cool moustache!"
