The band I have been playing in Trial By Fire is playing the Isle Of Capri Casino/Hotel tonight! I have been transitioning out of this band to another one and this will be my last gig with Trial By Fire tonight. I guess you could say we are going out with a bang. The band is continueing on. I just decided this just wan't the right fit for me. They play some very cool gigs and I told them last month I would stay with them until they get a replacement for me up and gig ready. I'll let you know how it goes! :D

You know considering that there are countless musicians unable to get into a band, yours is not a bad situation to be in you must be good at what you do.

Knock'em dead.

You got me curious now!

What was the problem? The distance? The situation itself?

What about them? Do they think that you, are a good fit for them still?

And tell us more about this new band! :-D

Craig, I really had high hopes for this band hell I waited 3 months for them to tell me whether or not I made the cut. Out of all the guitar players in houston they picked me and I was and still am very flattered by that. During that 3 month wait I met the guy's that I am joining up with now. I had all but given up on TBF and these guys were kind of wanting to know something. On the day that I told this new situation that I was learning their tunes TBF emailed and said I got the position. I called up this new group and told them I had accepted the position in TBF. They were real cool about it they wished me luck and I went full energy to TBF. Well when I called the leader of TBF he told me the Keyboard/rythem guitar was leaving and I already knew the drummer was leaving and was informed they had replacements that were already learning the tunes. I showed up for the first weeks rehearsal and soon after that noticed some of the other new folks weren't able to keep up with the speed at which I was learning the tunes. By the way it took me about three weeks to learn all of their tunes. Then the singer, of which this girl is really good informed us that it wasn't fun for her anymore and she would be leaving in September. IMO the leader is letting personal friendships get in the way of the professionalism of the band. Friends are very important to me but Buisiness is Buisiness.
Well when I found out she was leaving I was a little pissed. After waiting in limbo patiently for 3 months then making the sacrifice to learn 50 songs and turning down another situation I decided that if I am going to start over again at any level. I am going to do it with a group that is as dedicated to the project as me. These guys I am joining are very good musicians and are more my age and mature. Not that TBF doesn't have very talented people they are just not as mature as I am. I gotta go get ready to make the 2.5 hr drive to Lake Charles but I will check back with you guys tomorrow. Later

Its been about 24 hrs since I last posted! The gig went about like I thought it would. It just re-affirmed the reasons why I am leaving no regrets here! I can't believe that a casino with that kind of money has SUCH A SHITTY p.a. LMFAO-ROTFL Ha! Ha! I swear the monitor power amp is a peavey from like 1972! All things considered I had fun. All I can say is "is this what happens to a musician that has given it all he has for his entire life" I think I have become such a f**kin perfectionist I wonder if I'll ever find folks that really do it for the END PRODUCT the best that you can do! There is always one or two in the band that I don't think they EVER practice the only time they pick up their instrument is when (THE BAND PLAYS) End Rant LMAO!

The New band are just as much perfectionist as I am (I hope we don't kill each other).

The Casino paid us well and gave all 5 of us a free room. But when you play those gigs you are in fact an employee and they treat you as such. No drinking while playing, you can't make any noise until soundcheck (no noodleing or checking the e.q. on your amp). I hardly ever drink when I am playing if I do its only a couple of beers and maybe a shot before the last set and NEVER EVER when rehearsing. Its like I had such high hopes for this band and I have been so disappointed at every turn. I really feel bad for the leader he is a SUPURB musician and ONE HELL OF A NICE GUY! I don't think he can see what he is allowing to happen to his band over friendships but after last night I think it is clear to him now!

As for the new band the lead singer has a voice that can do ANYTHING I mean his voice goes on and on. At the last rehearsal I asked him if he needed a break during the night (I am not a bad lead singer) maybe a song or 2. This guy doesn't need a break Journey, AC DC, He freakin sings David Coverdale better than anyone I have ever heard. The bass player also sings plays the keyboard and Taurus Pedals (can anyone say RUSH) yeah buddy! We are seeking a drummer right now the singer is also playing the drums. We are auditioning drummers this Tuesday. I told the bass player Randy the new drummer is going to have to pass The Jerry test (he's the singer and also a drummer) any way I will let you guys know how it goes Tuesday.

Oh and Craig the drive is not getting to me I live close to Galveston but work almost in downtown Houston so I just take my guitars and amp to work put them in my office and leave from work to rehearsal its just that drive home after gets a little long. I have given up on finding a band closer to home there just aren't any ones that I would consider when I am looking. Its a matter of timing I gues. For now I am going full steam ahead with this band hoping that it works out because if it does WOW! :D

That's a very optimistic review of the situation. Hopefully the chemistry will match the talents and you can be a musical peace for a while.
A long drive home can be good to unwind and introspect.
Just be careful. Road kill musician ain't all that tasty.
