I've been lurking this forum like a pro for a while now, and the overarching theme seems to be that I need video or audio on my page to get contacted. My problem is, there's no video or audio of me playing anywhere that I know of. On top of that, i'm not currently in a band. So what would you want to hear if you went to my page? I play guitar and bass, should i multi-track them into a song? Would a garageband recording be enough?

What K said. A lot of us don't have bands and make our own backing tracks with DAWs. For better or worse at least peeps can get an idea if they want to work with you.

well, dammit. I had one done, but garageband crashed. I know i'm new around here, but if i could offer you all one piece of advice so you don't have to learn it the hard way, it'd be SAVE YOUR WORK.

Also, you can get those little handheld video recorders for less than $100 now. It's so worth it to get one and just have a friend record your playing. Maybe have a bass player friend or get a drum machine and just jam along with it.

I am the bass player, and guitar player. Currently, I'm looping a guitar part and playing a bass solo over it, but my roommate's back, so i have to wait again.

Are you talking about those Zoom recorders? Those look sick, and I heard they work quite well.

I use a FLIP camera. It has pretty good video quality, and for recording, you can replace the audio track using your DAW for really good sound quality.
This was done using my FLIP camera - video a little degraded due to having to webbify it, but good enough.

The Zoom is good too, if you're going to do "on location" video, like concerts, etc. but for home recording, you would want to replace the audio anyways.

more advice: Watch your ohms. I just fried the audio circuitry on my macbook pro. tonight at the apple store: "I was just watching youtube videos when everything started going crazy! I don't know what's going on!"

You can pick up an inexpensive web cam and upload strait to You Tube
