NASA Original Song Contest

NASA, the space agency, has launched a songwriting contest, to create a song which will be used to wake astronauts up with, and will be broadcast to them on one of the final shuttle flights.

I guess that's one way to avoid paying royalties.

There's already thousands of songs I could think of that I would want to hear.

Some should set this famous poem to music:

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

— John Gillespie Magee, Jr

That's the poem Ronald Reagan quoted from, when he gave his speech about the Challenger 7 Space Shuttle explosion.

Jimmy, just crank your marshall up all the way, set your guitar down by it and walk away.
Record a couple minutes of that.
That'll wake em up.

LOL @ Zip

I think this contest is custom made for NEANDERPAUL!!!

Paul, you should write and record one of your artistic and humorous songs for this, using your cool voices. Maybe call it: "Wake Up!!!" and start with a soft and somber, spoken: "Hellooooo crew. This is mission control, and it's time tooooo.... screamed: WAKE UP!!! WAKE UP!!! then quick stacatto, like Queen's lyrics... (think: mama mia, mama mia, mama mia, let me go) wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, WAAAAAKE UUUUUPPPP.... sung like an opera: CAUSE YOU'RE IN SPACE!!! And there's asteroids and planets and many satellites, and Neil Armstrong's golf ball, may still even be in flight, so WAKE UP!!! WAKE UP!!!! WAAAAAKE UUUUUUP!!!!!

(spoken funny) .... "Cause who else is gonna drive that thing?"

Big finale... "WAAAAKEEE UUUUPPP!!!!!"

Anyway, something humorous and unique, could give that writer/singer an edge, in being listened to, and maybe even selected. And Paul's got the style to do it! Think of some of his strange or theatrical songs he has done! I think something IN YOUR FACE, like that, for this kind of thing, could get people laughing, and since it is a WAKE-UP song, maybe even be able to win the damn thing, if it was clever and well done! :-)

Talk about great exposure! ;-)

There's already an existing song which they should use, Intergalactic Laxative by Donovan.
