What would you do?

I confess, I have been trying to find some players. I am in touch with a bass player that is almost as good as Phil. The catch is travel time and distance.

He doesn't want to get involved in my project JUST BECAUSE OF THE TRAVEL, but he wants me to do vocals for his band. Should I be insulted or honored?

I guess I will just keep the line opened, you never know. My wife says just move on . If he wont go out of the way why should you. The thing is he is not a guitar trying to play bass. He plays real bass and damn good

Oh well , just another bitch.

Well, I suppose it all comes down to whether or not it's worth to you for you to do the traveling, Glen. How serious are you, is another way to put it, I guess.

If the mountain won't come to Mohammed, & all that.

From what you've said, he evidently has a band. It's possible that the entire band is in his area, so it really makes more sense for you to go to them, than the other way around.

So, do you wanna join someone else's project, or are you adamant about starting up your own? Is his project interesting enough for you to put in the travel time?

I'd never be 'insulted' by someone who wants my talents, & this sounds like it could be something worthy pf your time, if it's at all intersting to you.

If you're like me and you find it difficult to join someone elses band then pass. Keep trying to put your own thing together; it may take longer but will be 10 times more satisfying. If you're desperate for a gig go check it out.

A talented singer songwriter friend of mine tried out to be in a band. He got in. Then they heard him play and sing his songs. The whole band immediately agreed to follow my friends lead and play his songs! If the drive isn't prohibitive get in in their stuff and submit your best song.

Yeah, Paul. The singer often drives the band, not the other way around, though it may take a little time to establish your "ultimate control."

I'd say go for it. Give it a chance. All it costs is some time & some gas, really, & I know you've been looking for something for awhile, now, Glen.

I have to wonder how far is " too far ".
Is it closer from you to him than him to you ?? :?

Sounds like an ego tripper.

If he wants you to do something for him, he should do something for you.

I know a couple of guys doing double duty round here so that they can fill their own line up with competent people. (would you rather have a boob?)

It stands to reason. If you do your job at his show, he should do his job at your show or have a comparable deal to offer you to even up.

I have the morning off[ things are SLOOOW].
Thank you guys you all have some good advice. This is his original band, he also has a bar band he is playing in,, seperate from this. Called Badbax.

I also have another drummer that started working with me... Do you think it would be to much to ask if they would mind a second drummer / percussion, and another guitar, and add a bunch more originals.
AW heck nothing to lose by asking. Probably have to go out of my way to find a keyboard player anyway.
Thanks guys.

wince..

I liked Janice and Gotta Play Your Own Song.

I can hear the keys player is really something, but otherwise I dunno.

Just go in eyes open and head up.

Seems like it's lively enough stuff to interest an audience, Glen.

This may well be a great 'interim' project, & allow you to get some new ideas for your own stuff, while letting you keep your chops up.

Thanks for the props, Glen.
