When women speak

No. If you're looking for my usual sexist jokes, you're about to be disappointed.

I was talking to someone who has a fave fem singer/songwriter that does nothing for me at all. I thought this might make an interesting convo...

There are two female singers who really speak to me, for very different reasons.

I love Suzanne Vega's voice. Her material is sometimes great, & sometimes...well...kinda blah...but her voice always touches me...in all them special nerve-endings...*pant pant*...there's a lot to be said for her lyrical abilities, too, & a general ethereal feel to much of her stuff (which, I'll admit, can get dull after awhile)...

I really love this song, for some reason - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBFG372HsW8

The other fem-fave for me is Toni Childs. She has such POWER in her voice. I wonder why I haven't heard much more from her...What a woman!

This is a fun, happy tune...Stop Your Fussin'!

So, who's your faves?

Not really big on female vocalist myself.

Suzanne sounds like she needs some anti depressants or something.

Toni sings more like a dude. Yea that will work.

I know, sans. It doesn't make sense. You know me. Would you expect me to go for a breathy wimpish lil voice like that? Maybe it's something like Marylin Monroe sings modern music...I dunno what it is...but it's a real problem for me! The girl gives me the chills...amongst other things best discussed with no one...

LMAO!

I can see why you'd say that.

She sings with her entire being, man. She has quite a range, if you listen to her other stuff.

I love those African beats she uses, too.

malocchio - I'll check out those ladies when I have more nuggets on my sat hookup...prolly tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm hoping to hear from some of our members of the feminine persuasion on this one...

Vega isn't much of a singer, but I know what you mean about 'voice' resonating with you.

A Monster of a song:

Heres one that does weird stuff to my arm hairs, though she hasn't done much of anything:

Shirley Manson - if you'd've said 'Garbage,' I'd've known her. She's good, but doesn't really grab me emotionally, from the stuff I've heard.

Kelli Ali - very interesting voice. There's something about certain voices, isn't there?

Claudine Longet - I've heard her before. Sweet voice, indeed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tory Amos - always found her interesting, in a bizarre way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Vega's "My Name Is Luca" always disturbed me, but yeah, it's a good one.

Suzy Bogguss - Zip, you shocked me with this one. I'd never have thought you'd like this one. Are ya being facetious? I like it. Great song.

Kate Bush - I like her, but sometimes she's way weird, vocally, for me.

Chrissie Hynde - Love her work, but her voice isn't one that really gets to me.

Pat Benatar - I loved her work, prior to her little sinal-sniffillitus problem.

Debra Harry - Her material was good. Her voice was good, but sometimes a bit shaky, imho.

No, I'm serious.
Her voice/tone does stuff to me.

I've listened to a fair share of country in my time.

Eva's my favorite. She never had a chance to hit the mainstream - as cancer took her life away much too soon.

But she was a tremendous voice.

I love Patti Cathcart's voice. It takes some getting use to because it is so deep. But once I got used to hearing her low voice I reallly began liking it.

I've been a fan of Tuck and Patti for over 20 years. I just love the way Tuck looks at Patti. 8)
