Just got a call from some guy on CL.

Evidently, I have a gig in a week, in Thomas, WV (about 100 miles away), wherein I'll be playing bass on his stuff (unheard, as of yet, but he's sending me MP3's to my e-box, today), & playing some solo originals, too.

The pay sounds good, & there's hotel & food & drink provided.

I HAVE heard recordings of a band that he's in. It's some African-based music with a really good fem singer. If his stuff is as good, it should be fun to do.

I'll be getting together with him on Fri, then playing Sat.

He's from Harrisonburg, VA.

This could be fun, if it goes like he says...

So awesome to have the confidence as a musician to take something like that on out of the blue.

Sounds like a blast!

DUDE! Definitely keep me updated when you are going to be there...Thomas is really just a hop/skip/jump/roll/run a little/hop again from me. What day are you playing-at the Purple Fiddle, maybe?

Sounds like a lot of fun, my favorite kind of gig. At least you have a little idea what you're getting into and a chance to go over some of the material.

Hope it goes well.

Dunno the name of the place, Joseph...or even if it's a bar, really.

I just checked, & I haven't gotten anything from the guy in my ebox, yet, but he knew I had a gig, today, so maybe he's in no hurry.

It takes a helluva lotta faith, too, sans. For all I know, it's either a scam or he sucks or sumpin...LOL...& a lot of faith on his part, too, cuz I don't think he's even heard me. Odd way to set up a show, if you ask me...

But what the hell. I ain't got much else on my plate right now!

Joseph...yes, it's the Purple Fiddle (is that, like, a gay bluegrass bar?)...on Sat Aug 7, 8:30 - 11:00.

LOl! Yeah, I didn't want to be the one to tell ya...

No, seriously, that's a really good gig. A lot of people play there (up and comers, etc.). They absolutely will NOT book a cover band. It looks pretty sh!tty from the outside (most of Thomas does), but I think it's an okay place. Good for you, man. Hope I get a chance to catch you there-I'm on vacation this week-until Sat., then it's back to work.

Oh, WOW! Thanks for the info! I didn't know there even WERE all-original bars around, these days. This is beginning to sound uber-cool! I'm really starting to look forward to this!

:) Philby, that sounds really good. Do you know this guy? How did he know to contact YOU?

Nope. Never met the guy. Never even heard of him before he contacted me through my CL ad, which doesn't even have music on it...

The band he claims to play in has a website. I saw 'em. The band looks like it's quite good enough for the minors, ya know?

Seems kinda goofy, but you know what? I'm up for something goofy!

I think he's taking a huge risk, as well. It'd be a lot huger if it weren't me that he contacted, though. He also contacted a percussionist, but I dunno if he's worked with her, before.

I ain't askeered, really, I have nothing to lose but my time, & a hotel room & gas, if it doesn't pan out. Ian will stay at the house, so there isn't even any risk at home.

It'll be a nice outing for me & the wife, too, cuz it's near Blackwater Falls. I love that place. Truly beautiful in that spiritual way that you can only get around running waters.

Yeah...I'm looking forward to this.

Make sure you check out the microbrewery (Blackwater Brewing Co.) Pretty good stuff-just don't tell them you know me...had a little issue about some missing equipment (I am innocent, I swear!!!).

LOL

I hope I'm not jinxing this thing. I still haven't gotten any music from him, but I sent him a link to my profile page in here, cuz I lost all my 'puter music recently, & don't have anything else to send.

I guess I'll hafta go back & redo the works on this infernal machine...& that sounds boring, so I won't be doing it today!
