I don't get it

I heard another mediocre musician on TV the other night. The crowd went wild even though he had marginal talent, in my opinion. Why?

Mostly because he had a Justin Beiber (SP?) haircut? Naturally the ones falling all over themselves were teenage girls. I wonder ..... If they banned teenagers from buying music, would music get better? Could real talent ever have a chance? Yeah. Bleak isn't it?

Question. Do you suppose that todays marginal talent pop stars look at the other marginal talent pop stars and wonder how they ever got to the top of the heap? I know.

This has to do with the public masses' level of intelligence. Especially when it comes to music. I think that the past generations had more awareness of what quality was. With the proliferation of the internet and mp3s, a massive amount of crap is being spewed unchecked. I am talking about the current American perspective which has deteriorated. The popular music in other parts of the world, like the Metal Scene in Gothenburg, Sweden; Modern Jazz in Paris, France and Pop Music in Tokyo Japan are quite different, and in my oppinion has kept its integrity with it's general public.

Music as an industry is the domain of young people. Young people have more disposable income (since they still live at the parent's) and have strong peer pressure. Since the lion's share of music is consumed by young people (25 and under), music marketers target young people almost exclusively. By the time most people are thirty they are married and have less income to "blow" on music and less peer pressure to keep up with the latest musical trends. By the time they are forty they are off from most music marketing charts, and by fifty are not considered at all.

"Rock and roll is a young man's game."

"Hope I die before I get old."

"Die young - stay pretty".

Was that on America's Got Talent :?: :? What a dissapointment. He couldn't sing in tune to save his life. Airpocolypse had more talent. All that matters is if your gimmic is a likeable one. If it is then you're in.

Income rises with age, but so do obligations. Young people usually have fewer obligations and are more inclined to spend money on music. Popular music is, for the most part, created by and for young people. If you ignore this, your music will be ignored.
