Set of KRK Rokit's are ensconced in the new studio, and man are they a sight better than $20.00 PC speakers....

Last Christmas I took the plunge, went with Yamahas. . I was checking out the Rokits when I bought mine. I can’t believe the difference it makes in a mix. I used to take a mix over to the co-writers house. I’d be all excited because it sounded great through my computer system. He would play it on his monitors and it would sound like crap. There would be that awkward pause for a few seconds, while I’d be puzzled by just how bad it sounded. :D

Good luck with them Celtic and congrats. For me monitors seemed to make a huge difference, here’s to hoping you found them as a worthy investment.

worthy indeed.
it's basically a must have, if one is inclined to do any mixing at all.
and man, those Rush tunes sound a million times more cool!

Yeah it’s funny, Mike has the NS10s which are renowned for their brightness. These are modeled after them, but with a 8” woofer. To emulate the ones he has I got the bass turned off. On occasion I still need to switch speaker sets to check for kick drum and bass guitar levels.

Every once in a while after listening to the same mix for too long through the monitors, the kick drum seems to disappear. It’s playing fine but it’s such a different tone, I lose track of it for a few seconds until I realize which sound it is. I wonder how long it’s going to take until I get entirely used to them.
