11. If your profile doesn't really say anything about you, you can expect no contacts.

12. If you don't have music samples of your work on your profile, your chances are slim to none.

13. If you start off being negative (i.e. - I won't work with druggies/women/'fags'/emos/n-words/yadda yada), you're chances are narrowed immensely. Let this info come out gradually, after you start talking to prospective ppl.

There are lots of ways one can shoot himself in the foot when seeking ppl to work with. Social skills really do help.

14. Do some lurking on the forums to get to know who is who and what they're all about like the genres of music that they play, ect.

Like Phil said...social skills count for a whole bunch.

But...there's always two sides to every coin, so even the regulars here should be adult enough to understand why or when someone feels misled by this site. I personally sit back and shake my head in disgust by what some of the regulars have said to other members. That just doesn't fly in my book, yet I don't say anything. I just make a mental note of it and smile because I'm better than that... 8)

Wow SP you really wrote a lot. This site is really cool because of most of these musicians are. We may not agree on many things but when I get to hear some of the music you won't find anywhere else, that changes the perspective. I mean even JW posted some of his original music and I loved it. I think it took him to realize that he was sharing with friends.
This place has a lot of value...... Besides we know Phil didn't wind up in the state hooscow. :)

All it is is negative energy that never produces anything positive.

People think I'm nuts when I go on about positive and negative energies.
I'm glad you wrote this line.
My Kung Fu background and learning had much to do with energy.
Reading it, using it, developing it, storing it, ETC.

This is another reason I attempt to lead my life in an honest decent fashion.
Not only my religious beliefs that I should strive to live "Christ like" even though I know that my salvation is not dependent on my "works".

But because I have in my own life and that of family / friends seen how the cumulative effects of being immersed in a million little evils effects peoples lives.

Example:
If a married man watches all the sick little TV programs that flaunt extramarital affairs as "drama" he is more likely to be unfaithful to his spouse.

Cumulative effect of negativity.

Sorry, I wax philosophical this afternoon. :?

I luv this site and I wish that I can be on here more often.
Oh and I would like to expand on what Sintient says about location and the interent. One of my music samples is with Hayden and myself. Hayden is in Kentucky and I am in California...we've never met. I will get the opportunity to perform with Shredd and his band HalAmano ( did I spell that right ?) Shredd and I will be playing together in a few weeks in Long Beach...yay.. Shredd's lives in Vegas. So location doesn't even matter. What matters is, how far are you willing to let BM take you. I feel that it has taken me on quite a trip and I am still travelin'.

You know Sentient I have responded and contacted many people within 50 miles of me with just a little success.
This post you have written has encouraged me to try harder.
I am not in need of musical success. Just personal satisfaction through
participation. I can sing, I can write well and I will find the right
people out there despite my isolation here in Louisa. I would encourage all to do what they can to find what they want and getting off your
ass is only the first step. I have issues and hurdles but I will get beyond
them. Thank You SP.

I am new here, and I find the site interesting, to say the least. I'm not a paying member. Still, I've already received an opportunity to try out for one band, have made a couple contacts with local musicians, and will be going to an informal jam sometime this week.

As I cruise around here and check things out I'm being exposed to alot of different things in the music scene. While the majority of music here isn't my cup of tea I think this place is pretty cool and quite a tool for possible work of some kind, if not at least communication with other musicians. Seems to me if someone were not friendly or mature enough to respond to someone's interest, they'd already know they are dealing with people they don't want to deal with.

Depending on a few factors I may yet become a paying member and would hope to make some solid contacts for hopefully present, and definitely future use, even in the more restricted category I function in.

Not to throw stones, because I don't know anybody here and haven't read any negative posts, but in reading this thread's subject matter I am reminded of an old saying - "An empty truck makes the most noise."
