It's been almost 39 years since I first saw the mighty Santana band; they were touring to support the third album and I was just a young lad. Booker T and the MGs ("Green Onions") opened the show. Tomorrow I will see Santana again, with Steve Winwood opening. This is my fifth concert in the last month, somebody stop me!

The only problem is I've spent over $500 on the 5 concerts; after this no more until possibly August when Tears For Fears visits Detroit. But I am excited to see Steve Winwood, I've liked him since the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith days.

We have a day in the park, called Saturday in the park. The park is in a valley with a band shell, looking much like a half buried clam shell. Every year they give a free concert to whomever wants to go listen. Santana and Steve Winwood played there this year. They have had musicians like Buddy Guy, BB King, and just about every big name for the last 20 years for the Sat gig.

Jam out with your clam out!

You'd think with a name like "Saturday In The Park" Chicago would be there all the time.

Man if you got the bread and the time why not Jimmy.
Jeanette and I have not been to a professional show in some time.
Been really enjoying the local music scene when we can get out together though.

How long has it been since Santana came out with "Supernatural?" 13 yrs or so?

I saw him 6 months before that album was released. I took my son to see him for his b'day. 'Twas a great show. He had Paul Reed Smith join him on stage for a cpl songs, too, but he seemed a lil shy to share the stage with such an icon. He played very demurely, but he was still pretty good, & Carlos was egging him on like mad.

Loved it. I've always enjoyed Santana. One of the songs that keeps popping into my headbone uninvited is "I'm Willing." Dunno why. I've never really been all that willing...
