Okay, I put an ad in craigslist, trying to find a new band.

I think the 1st response I have looks suspiciously like it's from the drunk guitar player trying to replace me in Flamingo Road. If it is, I'll kick his sorry lil ass, all while I'm laughing my butt off.

Nah...on second thought, the guy in my ebox sounds way too intelligent to be him...

Good luck with your search.
Soon as my jeans are dry I'm going to start loading out for the gig tonight.
I really need to buy myself a van.

My experience with CL thus far: pretty easy to find a band or bandmates. Pretty hard to find anything of substance. The fact that it's free and now THE way to for musicians to connect means you have to wade through a lot of crap. But I'd like to jam with you, seems like we have a lot of common ground.

The ad on CL that I think really put me off the site was the one which had a sentence in it:

"If you're a tweaker, I have a gun."

1) If there are that many tweakers on CL, maybe I don't want to advertise there?

2) So, it's okay to threaten someone with a gun if they have a lifestyle you disapprove of? Or do you simply assume their only reason to respond to your add is to steal from you. If the latter, see point number one.

3) Overall, I can't think of any reason to put that sentence in your ad which doesn't indicate something bad, either about the advertiser or the people he expects to respond to the ad.

I'll still use CL when looking for musicians, but I sure miss ba.music, The Mode and some of the other sites like those I used to use. They were free as well. They didn't seem to have some of the issues that CL does. Heck, I mostly miss BAM, the ultimate in local music rags IME.

FWIW, though, I'm a little cynical with the music search. Where I live now, if you aren't in to the worst sort of thrash metal, nobody is interested in you.

to be fair, there are more "tweakers" looking for potential victims on CL, than anywhere else..there are better ways of letting them know to look elsewhere, but think about it, you're responding to, and likely giving them directions to where you store thousands of dollars worth of equipment, that is easily sold on the black market...I personally don't think a verbal threat would get through to them, as tweakers they obviously don't heed warnings very well..I think the better idea would be to meet them in a non musical environment, before you give up the location to where you rehearse, if you can tell they are scum, treat them accordingly.

In the local vocabulary a " tweaker " is someone whom either
(a) Constantly tweaks knobs and such IE wont leave settings where they are.
OR
(b) Some one whom is emotionally labile and " tweaks " every time something changes in their lives.

I have to assume by context your taking about F,ing thieves.
I am opposed to using "cute" names for F,ing thieves, simply because they are F,ing thieves.
Though I am not opposed to using a gun on them. I hate F,ing thieves.
I consider myself a fairly good judge of character yet determining someones hidden intents can be difficult in one meeting.

It's a risky business advertising for band partners in a world full of losers.

Shame that. :(

try this its from the urban dictionary, and I think this is what he is refering to..

1. tweaker
Also: tweeker. 1. Person who constantly stays up cleaning, washing, organizing, powertooling, sorting or otherwise keeping themself busy doing menial tasks. 2. Someone who constantly makes slight alterations on (usually a very specific) object, i.e. computer, software, automobile, etc. 3. A compulsive liar, thief, or both. 4. A methamphetamine ("tweak"), or other form of speed, addict (who displays all of the above in an obsessive-compulsive manner).

If they're a tweaker, yes it's ok to threaten them with a gun.
Extremely unpredictable and dangerous.
No sympathy, no mercy.

Heh, I know about online dating, and I'll just say once is enough. I still have yet to meet a musician to jam with online, but Sans' story makes me hopeful.

Thank you Tronix, I only know one meaning of TWEAKER and that's the meth head thing..

Unfucking real how many people are getting hooked on that utter sh*t.

May as well just kill yourself, it's quicker and less trouble.

CL, on the other hand, is a lurking spot for thieves, cops, serial killers and real cretinous people imo.

Oh yeah, I forgot prostitutes. lol

And yet I still must ask that eternal question...you know...the one that gets asked here all the time -

WHY WON'T PEOPLE ANSWER THEIR E-MAILS, OR THEIR PHONES, OR RETURN A SIMPLE PHONE CALL EVEN AFTER THEY HAVE CONTACTED ME?

Yeah...it's a time-worn question, & the only available answer seems to be that there are just too many time-wasting flake-headed stupid childishly immature egg-suckin' moronic assholish useless lazy neglectful overblown disrespectful cheesy compostable spineless in-bred good-for-nothing uncaring constipated mentally & emotionally unstable drugged-or-drunked-up incompetent chicken-shit lame-assed unkempt filthy dreamy-eyed lousy son-of-a-bitchin' dirty rotten socially-challenged smelly inept pimply mealy-mouthed ugly pig-faced mother-f*ckin' father-lickin' silly jerky nasty pea-brained gaseous smoked-up moldy-assed indecisive blowhard wannabe two-bit inconsiderate twits in the world who have nothing better to do than waste my time...omg I've run out of adjectives! Feel free to add your own...

Hey! I think there's a song in there...maybe a pretty little ballad...

Now, where did I put that gun?
