Thanks for the concerns, Zip, et al.

Got into Charlottesville Mon nite. Didn't sleep all night cuzza the sunburn.

Tue, Jace got that pressure guage put in. He looked like a unicorn child, the way they wrapped the thing up. I'll try to get some pics from the wife to post. (Of course I forgot to take the camera, so all we have is her cell phone shot.)

Throughout the week, of course, he had no headachy episodes, so we still don't know what's causing them, but it looks like his head pressures are under control when he feels good, anyway.

Of course, they had him on the 7th floor of the hospital.

Yesterday, some freak storm came through, just as I got back to the place from the Ronald McDonald house. I completely missed the fact that there was even a storm, until the hospital lights started acting all floopy. Since the place is always under construction, some of the generators were down, & so were the elevators, so for the rest of the day, if we wanted anuthing, either Ian or myself had to walk the 7 flights of stairs.

Now I know how out of shape I am. I gots blisters on both my feets, too.

Both Ian & I had a horrible night - no electric or A/C. I stayed at the house, & had to go out to see the damage...WOW! Charlottesville looked like a war zone! Trees & power lines down everywhere. I was right - VA drivers are the worst, next to NJ, of course. The street lights were off, & ppl were just zipping through them like they didn't exist. Accidents everywhere! I drove for 25 miles & the entire area was mostly blacked out! Weird storm, for sure. It came outta the blue (literally) with little to no rain at all. When we left, there were no restaurants open, & most of the gas stations were still closed.

So the trip was pretty worthless, all in all, cuz we still know nothing, & thus nothing can be addressed. They're still trying to put Jace on daily meds, but at least now they're talking amytriptaline instead of anti-depressants. I used to get that at the health food stores before the gov't flooked it up.

I think I got about a solid total 8 1/2 hours sleep the whole trip, too, which helped immensely. I've been missing my sleep. Tonight I should get my 1st whole night's sleep, if anything goes well at all.

Jace was his cheery flirty self, making friends with all the ladies. It was so comical!

I'm urging Ian to start setting things up to go to Johns Hopkins, next.

A final word - Ronald McDonald houses are the best charity I've ever seen at work. They really go the extra mile to help ppl, & I will be donating to them at every opportunity. The place we stayed at had no generator, & the emergency lights were out of commission, too, but the staff was there with keys & flashlights for all, after the storm hit. This is a truly worthwhile charity, ppl. Please do what you can for them, cuz they DO help!

Welcome back brother!

I know you're not out of the woods yet. We'll keep you all in our prayers.

Spot on about RM House! I know people who have stayed there as well, and it really is a worthwhile charity!

Glad you all made it through the storm in one piece!

Thanks, Craig.

Ian & I are exhaustifried from the whole ordeal, but Jace, of course, has taken it all in stride, & is very happy to be here again. He's running around like a nut, giggling & throwing stuff & happy as heck to be away from the tethers he's endured so well the last few days.

I have STICKS tonight, cuz the guys rescheduled our regular meeting night to accomodate my needs. Those guys are great, too.

I have come to realize that i'm very lucky to have such great friends, both here & in regular life!

:D

Of course, the wife & Ian took Jace out to dinner last night, & he got sick.

My sinuses are all floopy. I'm still not convinced that Jace's problems aren't something as simple as sinuses. When I tried to convey that to the neuro's at the hospital, Thursday, they tried to tell me that MY headaches are actually migraines.

I'm beginning to think that there ain't a damned one of them that are willing to think outside any box, & look for a more sensible, practical, & simple cause for it all.

I'm gonna get that child to a frikken ear, nose & throat guy if it kills me! At least then I'll have one more possible cause checked off, if I'm wrong.

On the one hand, these morons are telling me that less than 3% of kids with these headaches actually have migraines, & on the other, they're all too quick to accept that as the problem, without adequate testing, imho. None of these assholes have even SEEN Jace having an episode, yet they're gonna tell me what it is. I think they're all fulla sh*t.

I want the boy tested for allergies. I also want his sinuses & eyes checked out. This constant problem seems to coordinate with changes in temperature, changes in the barometer, & occasionally changes in light. Why would they try to tell me not to bother checking out the more obvious route to a solution? Is it just hubris? Pride in their respective medical pursuits? Or am I really all that wrong, & they just can't explain it to me adequately?

Sounds like a second opinion would be good at this stage Phil. Both for the boy and everyone's peace of mind. It may not even be as bad as they were predicting.

I know a girl who they said could have cancer and leukemia, but none of their tests proved accurate...it's more minor than that! But they have her on antibiotics for no real reason. To save face in their practice perhaps?

Yeah, go see another doc, and keep praying, as I will and everyone else here will too.

Phillby I don’t know the whole story and I my well wishes are for you. These are two way out in left field ideas. But it only takes a second to ask, if you’re looking for possible causes that may not be obvious.

I don’t know how old Jayce is. Has he ever had any dental work done? When I was in the navy a friend’s wife had terrible headaches accompanied with nausea for years and they couldn’t find a cure. One day she went to a new dentist and he told her she had dissimilar metals used in her fillings. They replaced the fillings and like magic her headaches disappeared.

My Brother-in-law has always had problems with kidney stones. He has a condition that causes too much calcium in his system. A few months ago he was suffering from terrible headaches, fever, vomiting. They couldn’t figure out what the cause was. Eventually it turned out to be a calcium deposit in his brain and that he also had kidney stones. He underwent surgery and from what I’m told is doing fine. No more headaches. I don’t know all the exact details since I haven’t had the chance to talk to him about it, since before he went in. Anyway just two unusual circumstances with headaches that I know of.

At first I thought the idea of this happening in a child would be far fetched, but after looking on the web, the youngest case I have seen so far was 12 months old. I’m no doctor, but from what I read, some of the causes are hard water with high mineral content, an excess of dairy food rich in calcium and calcium supplements.
