Man to man PLEASE!

Occasionally I run musician wanted ads on Craig's List or Backpage.com and occasionally I get Bandmix inquiries or send them out. What really irritates me is getting continuous e-mail messages or text messages from people after I repeatedly tell them to call me. A dry message doesn't tell me anywhere near as much as hearing somebody's voice. Lately I've been answering e-mails and telling people no more e-mails or text messages please. Making music together is done best IN PERSON MAN-TO-MAN (or person-to-person). It usually starts with a phone call...

I've been thiinking about posting my number from now on too. A lot of people I've corresponded with seem really upbeat and funny, but when I finally talk to them on the phone they bum me out by trying to be mellow and cool. Too cool to laugh at my corny jokes, and too cool to be funny.
I have to jam with people who have a personality.

Find some schizophrenics. They have lots of personalities.

+1 haha Slacker
Craiglist and Bandimx are a hard, frustrating way to build a band, but it can be done.
For quicker results, try hitting jam nights/ open mics.

I had the unfortunate experience of meeting a guy who wanted to start a band, only to find out later he had schizophrenia. I thought he might of just had a mild case, but this guy had horrible episodes. I learned my lesson. Kinda felt sorry for him actually.
I'll save those stories for later for the sake of not hijacking Bob's thread.

You know Bob...
I can totally understand where you are coming from. There is no substitute for a face-to-face meeting, and email is certainly no substitute for a phone conversation.
But the fact is, you're a dinosaur dude. This is the modern world; tech rules. People are using social media, e-mail and texts now. So if you're bitching about them not calling you, the only real thing you're accomplishing is that you're dating yourself and making yourself look just as out of touch as you really are.
If a phone call is important to you, don't demand that OTHER people call YOU. Instead, ask them to e-mail their phone number to YOU and YOU call THEM.
And if they text you, CALL THEM.
Being upset that other people don't do what you want or expect them to do is just wrong. You can't control other people man. That's lesson #1 from couples counseling and it's not just applicable to couples dude. It goes for everyone you interact with.
If you want something done a certain way - if you want to TALK on a phone - you make the call.

Bobasaurus Rex!
I empathize, everyone wants me to text them. Can't people talk anymore? Even though it's a tech world should we let it dominate and mandate the way you want to communicate? I say no. Do it your way.

Georgasurus thinks it's childish and weak to hide behind electrowhizbang.
Were going to put on a live rock show via text message.
Man up dude ... same goes double for gayassed counselors.
Tell me how to live ?? Hell they can't run their own lives.
Southerman don't need you around anyhow!
YEAH BABY YEAH !!

Happens all the time in Germany Sans. Entire
bands - and shows - are put together via e-mail and texts. No practices either, just a sound check. Everyone who participates is a seasoned pro and the sh*t just works man.
And they manage to kick ass doing this stuff.
You guys want to see real working musicians making a living, travel some. Get to Germany and check out that scene. I was completely blown away by how things are done; much different than here. And the results were better too. Great sounding shows...

I'd love to see The Fatherland.
( actually I'm waiting or them to return the Black Forest to it's rightful master ... ME )
But they no longer respect my basic rights as a human being so ... No.
You forget I'm a gun toting Bible thumping redneck Texasaurus Rex.
And I like it like that.
Seriously though. I really prefer face to face.
A person can lie to me ... their energy can't.

This thread is starting to remind me of a thread I posted about how technology was getting in the way of music in a lot of ways.
I guess I'm in the dinasour family mentality myself. I mean, ever since I've looked for band members again, it's been ridiculously harder than ever. They don't even have a bulletin board at the local Guitar Center anymore. It used to take no longer than a month to form a band...even in the 90's. A phone call, practice in the garage, and presto! A band is formed. And getting a good following was easy too.
Now people seem socially retarded. And anyone can be whoever they want behind a screen. Which is why I'm going to look for bulletin boards and see if my search is easier. I know my chances of being misled are slimmer.
