I love people + musicians in general.

Line em up and shoot em.

4 weeks ago we were to be recorded by an indie label.
3 weeks ago people decided they needed new material we didn't currently know.
2 weeks ago we decided to 'take a break', cause I don't speak hardcore, etc..
1 week ago I placed an ad for a new keys player.

Now I am being shelled with requests from keys players, some good, some not so good.

Point is, I tell them that it's a rebuild as I am not playing hardcore, techno, country+ western or any rap at all for that fact.

Now all the keys players are going back under the rocks I found them under. I can't even get a guy who I consider to be a real find to jam, ON ANY GIVEN DAY.

It's like once he found out that the situation is a rebuild, he changed his mind.

I have an indie label that wants to record, but no workable scenario any longer. To make matters worse, the label is PUSHY. They want me to commit to a date to come in a lay the tracks down.

So I just finally broke down and told them that things are in disarray and that we wouldn't be recording after all.

The contact I have told me to "lie to them and do whatever you have to to get them to come in and record".

I told him that if the situation changes, I'll let him know.

Now I just feel like this guy is a scummy liar. Probably would have gotten my music stolen to boot.

Keyboard players are famous for wanting everything to be in place before they step foot in your rehearsal space. I would build the band on the assumption you will find one when everything is straight. Or get another guitar player and say no thanks to the keys.

Thats so true and there is a very good reason for it too. Perhaps its a mindset thing? I don't know but dabbling with them increasingly has lead to the belief that you just cannot muck about with them, they are as crucial as a good bass if your band survives on such a thing.

Nicely said Jimmy.

I've noticed a bit of that same attitude in my situation as well. I'm also in a re-build situation. The people involved don't seem to take it seriously enough so I called the drummer last night and told him that if he doesn't show up at practice tonight, that his drum set will be setting outside the building waiting for him to pick it up. My old friend and writing partner (the 3 complete songs on my page) is back and we're stickin' together because of what we can do together. But to find other people that are as serious as us??? Still not seeing them...yet...

Oh yeah...another drummer called me last night and wants to do the project, so it's not like we'll be out a drummer, but I'm not sure if Shawn will want to work with this particular person...

Hope you find the right keys.

I kind of have a different situation.

We frequently have people whom when they hear / see us play they want to come out for a jam session or a sing along.
That would be totally cool.
A guitar player the other day suggested coming out with some "charts" and working on some original music. Also would be totally cool. People just not accustomed to seeing a"new" band doing originals I guess.

If we played two or three times a week it would be different. Sometimes were lucky to make once a week due to work and other schedule conflicts.
So every practice has a specific goal. I cannot remember the last time we just "jammed" .
That would be fun to do. Have people sit in and stuff. Just don't see a lot of time available for it with recording and gig preps taking all our time we even have some new songs we've not completed.

Not complaining mind you. But would it not be awesome if this was all we had to do ??
Play !!
