Jukeboxes have changed as technology advances.

Now you can download virtually ANY song you want to play, on modern jukeboxes, without worrying whether "your" song is on the jukebox or not. You can also play games, share photos, and much more... and even pay with a credit card for all of it, if you like.

But.... even though I am a total tech-and-gadget geek, I have to say, that, for me, nothing compares to the authentic jukeboxes I remember growing up with....

An uncle of mine, had one similar to the one below. Can't find a pic of one that looks exactly like his, but it was a HUGE Jukebox, very wide, and held many, many records. My cousins and I, would blast that thing for hours at a time, when we were kids.

It was awesome to watch the mechanics, of how it pulled the 45 out of the spindle of records, and then placed it on the turntable, and then, of course... LISTENING to all those great tunes on warm-rich-sounding VINYL!!!

My family has tales of the jukebox.

My great grandfather was an inventor. He was also a bit of a drinker, & rather well-to-so. He had a habit of going to bars & picking up ppl with sob stories, & bringing them home to help them get on their feet. One guy would be the new butler or gardener, & his wife might be the new maid. Stuff like that.

The story goes that he invented the juke box, & met some guy with a sad tale, & so he gave him the plans, with the hope of making his life a better one.

It worked.

I can't swear to the factuality of the story, but I always liked it. I wish I could have met my great grandfather. I knew his wife pretty well, though. She was way cool, & lived to her mid 90's.

It's been done. I've seen 'em. But they don't seem to be catching on.

I couldn't quite bring myself to trust the one or two that I saw. Maybe I'm not the only one?

And in the Really Stupid Technology category: kiosks for ordering which take cash, credit and debit cards right next to the counter where there are people working at Jack-in-the-Box.

Cash is not evil. Plastic is not evil. But sometimes the use of plastic is evil, IMO.

Of course,

You could always move to Japan, where just about EVERYTHING is available in a vending machine....
