A Crazy Idea I had Today...Is It a Good Idea?

I was thinking earlier just how cool it would be to get all you guys on this forum to do a compilation CD. If it had Bandmix on the cover that would probably be infringement. It would probably have to be titled something else. It seems like a cool idea.

How could we go about it money-wise? Would everyone chip in and get a certain amount of CD's each, of say, 1,000? And what about Digital Distribution payments?

I know it sounds a little sketchy, but if it worked that would be sick! We have enough members on this board to contribute songs. I know I could easily get some people to go into the studio with me to cut a track. Damn, if we had permission we could call it:The Music of Bandmix,or something like that. Just think of the variety of genres.

There I go again thinking and fantasizing...but hey...Woodstock was put together! How hard could this be?

So tell me ladies and gents, am I thinking realistically at all?

P.S. What the heck happened to Dewy? I liked that guy.

Eventually, this will indeed come to fruition. Hey there was a Youtubb orchestra. WHy not a BM band, what could be cooler?

I fantasize about writing Concertino for Electric Guitar and Flute Duet. It will sound the way fire feels.

I've been on a couple of comps, not against it but it never came to much. You can give them away at gigs as promos I guess.

If I had proper recording gear and audio editing equipment, I'd be all for contributing.

The old Digitech forum community used to put out a CD every year. Some songs were colabs, but most were completed by the individual musicians. They had someone good at mastering do the final mastering and compiling. Then they posted the free CD's to those who wanted them, as downloads. I'm not sure but they still may be on the net. Some really great stuff. It was a good idea then and it's a good idea now.

Unfortunately, Mike, the guy who did all the compiling and mastering died a few years ago and the project came to a screeching halt. He had to dedicate a lot of time and effort in the mastering process, and no one else was willing to commit to the task.

I nominate you to be the Mix and Master guy.

I nominate me to play producer.

It's not a bad idea at all. Though I think you may find many are too busy chasing their own tales to really co operate to the degree required to be successful.

I've made my own compilation of the music that is open to down load just for personal use / pleasure. One issue wil be handling various copy rights especially if any profit were to be made.

For what it's worth. Your welcome to our music anytime.

Profits?? :? Profits?? :? Profits?? :?

Hey, did I miss something? We're talking about music here right?? It seems like everybody but musicians make a profit these days.

Why don't you just make a Bandmix profile that had a bunch of everyone's songs on it. I'm not so sure a bandmix cd would do much in sales (sorry, my opinion). But, you could make a new compilation profile every year (bandmix 2010, 2011, 2012, etc..) I personally would hate to be involved in something like this if it involved sales. If it's done as free downloads, and in a compilation setting, I don't see a problem with that. You could easily do that with the Bandmix profile format. Premium membership= unlimited uploads right?

Mmmmm... Sign me up.
The way you phrased that made my spidey sense tingle.

It seems like the easiest way this could be done would be through free downloads. Anything else and too many people would disagree on certain things.

If everyone had free reign to start up different accounts and network a little, it could help with exposure a great deal.

Maybe around this Fall we could do it? I would like to. Everything would boil down to rule of thumbs i.e. artwork, song order...etc. As long as nobody tried to play "boss", we could do this down the road. :) This little experiment might do alright!

Really? All that's needed is the internet, and a spare song from anyone who wants to contribute. And abracadabra, you then have it all in a zip file.

I guess we'll see.

I'd love to hear said complilation. I'd be hesitant about putting Bandmix on it tho. I mean other than setting this site in motion and letting go of it so members end up driving without a steering wheel, what have they done? They certainly don't maintain the site - and they don't moderate the site. I've been frequenting this site for quite some time now and I still have no idea who runs it!

But there's a lot of talent here for sure. You guys rock in the literal sense. A compilation CD would be awesome!
